Since the BFG Edition never wanted to work for me, I decided to grab the original release and expansion from GMG. Since I'd still like to play the extra content in the updated release, I'm wondering if any mods had similar content. I'd also like the bonus campaign, but I very much doubt that is available outside the remake.

I don't think there's any new content other than the bonus campaign. It does have parts of the first two games though.

Check out this to make your game prettier.

There's also The Dark Mod which recreates the Thief games on the Doom 3 engine.

There were other changes, such as the pistol torch (AKA flashlight) being included in the original campaign.

Hmm only thing I know about the flashlight change is that they attached it to the body armor. There's a mod that adds lights to all the weapons so you can use both at the same time but that's all I know of.

Aside from the achievements in the BFG edition, I thought the original Doom 3 was better. The extra campaign, "The Lost Mission" is boring and feels tacked on. Even the updated graphics seem less impressive than the original.

The only thing I found disappointing is that the damn thing won't run.

I was actually interested in trying the new content as I already owned the XBox versions of both Doom 3 and the expansion.

But why not? D: Surely there's a way to get it working! I was really looking forward to the "new content", but believe me, it's nothing special.

I've done every suggestion except updating my video card drivers with the standard drivers. I have some weird version of my card that has custom stuff from HP, and the regular drivers result in my system suffering from blue screens until I do the backup utility to do a format and restore to factory defaults, so I stick with what HP gives me for it. There are no other fixes that work, and them doing something about the problem isn't going to happen.

Personally though, drivers shouldn't be the problem, every other game I own, including newer titles, doesn't have any problem with the drivers I'm using from HP. But Doom 3 BFG gives a white screen and the sound, nothing else.

Check whether HP has a driver update for your card. One reason why I don't wish to use a pre-made for the new desktop I intend to get is precisely because of propriety stuff from the "manufacturer" of the computer.

I'm already using the most current. It just doesn't work.

And at the time, I needed a PC fast and cheap. Pre built PCs let me get it financed, so I could walk out the store with one, unlike parts, where I needed all the cash then. At least it wasn't a recycled PC like the previous 2.

Isn't there stores in your area that builds the parts for you when you buy them from that store? I know my area has some.

Nope. As it was, the local stores were phasing out desktops around here, I got one that was a discontinued series. Everything else was all in ones and laptops. From now on, I'll need to build my own for a decent PC.

What do you mean by that?
To make my point more clear, it is

  1. You buy all the individual parts from the shop.
  2. The store assembles the computer together for you using those parts.

I don't get how parts can get phased out from local stores.

The local stores don't stock parts anymore, simple as that. They phased out stuff like that, because online stores are able to offer better deals. They stock for the people who wouldn't be getting a custom PC, but something off the shelf without knowing about specs. Most of which was crap.

Doesn't help they aren't specialized PC stores, but general electronic stores.

Now that makes sense. I really wonder why there aren't specialized PC stores though.

Too many places around here have gone out of business lately. Its why I'm here every day rather than a job. :P

Very accurate, that. Shame ditching the country isn't an option. Takes a bit of cash to do that.

Hd graphics, widescreen, and flashlight mod, and you've pretty much got the same thing as BFG edition.
