The greatest threat and the worst faction is the Aldemri Dominion. Which faction has the best chance to defeat them? Certainly not the Stormcloaks.

Good thing it's Bethesda game - that means your decision won't matter at all in the end, so you can go with whoever you find sexier.

Imperials, but only because I didn't spend four games fighting for the Empire only to have it disintegrate now.

(Actually, I didn't exactly fight for the Empire in Daggerfall; I think I kinda forgot about the mission the Emperor gave me and focused on becoming head of the Mage's guild. C'est la vie.)

Also if you haven't done the quest in the Thalmor embassy, you might want to do it first before deciding, and search it carefully -- there's a note there that might influence your decision.

This is how it works, you chose Stormcloacks, but you end up killing everything. (except dogs) Killing a dogs is the worst sin you can do, is better killing children using some mod.

Being part of the ruling party and fighting rebels is too mainstream. Being the rebel is more interesting.

I would join Stormcloaks because Imperials wanted to kill me when I started the game :P

I always joined the Imperials because I can't stand the attitude of the Stormcloacks. They are a bunch of rasist idiots ruled by Ulfric who is even worse. They hate everyone who isn't a Nord; I mean, how can you hate the Khajit or the lizards? xD Ulfric certainly never met M'aiq.
Keep in mind that the Empire is no ally of the Thalmor, but they can't fight them back unless they end the rebellion, as General Tullius says this after the civil war.
