Well, i think i would enjoy the game with some atmospheric folk, doom metal or post rock.

EDIT: or with the game's soundtrack, if it's fitting.

This.
I don't understand why don't more games and films make use of post-rock. It's kind of perfect music for films and games. Just look how good Mogwai fit in Spec Ops: The Line and how great GYBE fit in 28 days later.

Lil' Wayne.

But seriously, I'd want to listen to music from that era, since it is more fitting, and would make me feel more immersed in that world, depending on how it is used.

i agree with you but i also think it would be cool to be able to play past war scenarios with modern music. i just find it gives a different but better feeling

You can't go wrong getting pumped up with this. I even listen while I'm studying to get me in the mood to beat that test's ass.

Edit: ah you changed the thread title. Now my answer is dumb but still awesome :)

I would go for some pre-war piano; such as Ludwig van Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata(Mvt.1) or Erik Satie's Gnossienne No.1. This kind of music was especially popularized in world war 2 and were very commonly broadcasted on the radio. If your going for a more atmospheric/ambient theme then I would recommend national songs played by orchestras, if you listen to the music used in games such as the early Call of Dutys (1-2), the early Medal of Honors and also the more recent Red Orchestra 2, you can see that they all use orchestral music for their ambiance

If you're looking for something at more of a chaotic pace, I recommend Vilvadi's 4 Seasons

I too was going to suggest classical music! You may also want to take a look at some Anglican church hymns and/or music played on organs.

It depends, i would really put an instrumental hard rock music, but maybe you could prefer something famous during the war.

Dear Professor. Rather than conducting an actual survey, and asked a few random people on a forum and got a mix of responses that were hard to correlate into any sort of trend or representative preference. Instead, I just picked the one I agreed with and said that was the overall preference.
