I'm not a music guy. I signed up for the humble bundle newsletter expecting games. If I wanted music, I'd join emule or whatever the kids are using these days.

Most people can't hear a difference between FLAC and 320 MP3. I am not one of those people, largely because I can't find any codecs for FLAC that never stutter.

I am one of those who can (I am a music producer), mainly because of my headphones quality and using monitors instead of regular speakers.

Are you still able to enjoy decent MP3s?

yes, sure, I'm not that picky :) (I just plug in other headphones to my M-Audio Firewire 410)

But almost all of us will know one song or another.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

I think you'd be surprised. Tin and Coulton are responsible for two of the most widely recognized pieces of video game music ever. They Might Be Giants I can understand, though, even if they're not particularly obscure. But even among the younger gamer demographic, I can't be the only one who owned the Power Rangers soundtrack when I was like 7, can I?

I said two of the most widely recognized, not the two most widely recognized. I don't think it's a stretch to put Baba Yetu and Still Alive in that group.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's a pretty big stretch. I'm one of the few who will even recognize Baba Yetu in a few years, much less in more than 20, like the music in widely recognized soundtracks.

Cristopher Tin - He's best known for being the composer for Civilization 4. Look for Baba Yetu. Great song.

Jonathan Culton - Composer for Portal 1 and 2 I dont think I need to say more.

OK GO - Some indie band well known for very creative low budget videos for their song. Watch some on youtube, They are cool.

Sakimoto - He made music for a lot of asian games: Valkaria Cronicles, some Final Fantasy games etc.

The other two..I don't know them.
