I think they're more linear, action-y Zelda-like games, minus all the items.
But Oath and Origins or whatever does look really good, not sure about the others.

They are action RPGs though, not turn based RPGs so not to much like FF, more like Secret of Mana or KH without a party. But yes, very worth it if you love that sort of thing because they are among the best of the genre. I've gotten well over 1000 hours of play from Oath and Origin alone, another about a 100 from I and II. The Boss Rush is an amazing challenge that adds a lot of replay value as you try to first even get through it, and then later try and beat your times and other people's. Even if you don't go for 100%ing the games, you still get a good 10-20 hours from the normal game and more with Origin because you have three characters to play as. If you are looking more for a turn based RPG like FF keep an eye out for Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky's imminent release because that one is much closer to a FF game, though in my opinion it blows FF out of the water in everything besides graphics. Same dev and publisher as Ys.
Also, it is highly doubtful they will ever get bundled. I just can't see a company that releases games that they love so much devaluing them in that way. They don't even go on sale very often, though they are well worth the regular prices.

You're very welcome! And I just saw that sale price, seriously go grab them. That's likely the lowest you are ever going to see them and it only happens maybe once or twice a year at most.

It's great, I have about 50 hours on origin with still stuff to do

They are action packed, decent stories, hard and pounding boss battles. You will most likely do boss fights over and over again until you manage to beat them. If that repeated boss fight butt whipping is something that would turn you off pass on it. Otherwise Ys Origin & Ys Faith are worth getting. I cannot attest to how Ys:I + II are though.

ladynadiad already mentioned the important stuff, so I'll just say, if you can only pick one go for Oath in Felghana. IMO it's much better than Origin: it's more challenging, the setting is more varied, and more importantly it has a better soundtrack.

Yes. They're both great action RPG's with challenging and rewarding boss fights. Both Origin and Felghana have Boss Rush modes, which increase replayability, and Origin has three characters and more bonus modes and unlockable characters.
Ys stories, unfortunately, are a little weak. Trails in the Sky has a much better story, and is coming soon (maybe) to PC.
Ys I and II are also pretty good, if you're okay with the bump-based-turned-into-Touhou combat system.

Actually, one of the XSEED employees posted just today on their forum that we're likely going to get a release date for Trails in the Sky this week. Here's the post if you want to read it. Knowing their usual patterns, this likely means it's coming next week.

Oh, wow, didn't know that. Good thing I didn't start replaying FC - I loaded it into my PSP earlier this week.

I know the feeling, been tempted to play it too, guess if I want to play and can't wait I'll scratch my itch by playing the 3rd in Japanese since that one still is up in the air as to if it will ever be translated.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES. AGAIN, YES.
Still never played I or II (have them since like year ago, lol), but Origin is awesome. Oath of Felghana is really good too.

A shame, Celceta is quite good too and the main reason why I got my Vita, though I've found many games since then to make the Vita more than worth it.

Origins games are good but not for everyone, it's basically you running around a lot through lovely levels through enemies and trying to tactically not hit them head on so they lose life, its a little tricky at first but very satisfying, you gotta be on your toes, the pacing of it is interesting and they don't play out like some epic FF game in story but there are interesting characters, the dialogue from the NPCs especially in the 2nd game is quite entertaining. Such a throwback game, but the formula can still feel exciting and not grindy

Ys I & II is/are one of my favorite games ever, and I've never really cared for RPGs. Its one of the very few games that I've actually beaten multiple times, and being able to play it on the Wii Virtual Console was the single biggest reason I originally bought a Wii. I knew my Turbo Duo copy wouldn't last forever.
I really wanted these games to go on sale during the Steam Summer Sale, and was quite disappointed they didn't, but now I can grab them! I just need to remember to buy them after I get paid but before they go off sale.
