"max settings" are overrated and nvidia effects are usually 100% bullshit

I don't have time to build or even gather what I want for it.
How many times do I need to say that?
I have an alien ware now and it lasted 8 years. So I will be inclined to get a new one.

Honestly, I wanted to give you the same advice.
There are plenty of nice people in the forum here, who can link you all needed parts.
Many stores offer a service to build the PC for a fee (usually 20-50$)
You will get a better setup for 1000$ within like 30 minutes? (time to post a thread, read replies and order)
Plus it will have a SSD and the ability to upgrade it any time...
We just want to help you :)

Maybe try to compare to what you can get here
But $1500 for it looks like a pretty good price, though it might get really hot when gaming and I'm not sure it actually costs that.

ive build a pc with the same budget and i can say it makes a big difference. it just took me 4 hours total to build and set up. if you want really good performance for that price you should build it. it is worth it. you dont need to be a pc genius to do so.
here is the link if you want to check it out. https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/7uheF/want-to-build-my-first-gaming-pc-need-advise

As said above, it is really sad not to have SSD for a $1500 budget PC/laptop. At least, take a hybrid SSHD if you really want HD storage.
If you don't need mobility, definitively go for desktop for best perf/dollars.
Also, most of sellers offer ~$50 services to build your PC if you don't have time to.
Customized PC are actually cheaper, so for equivalent budget you generally get better performance and you don't pay for a trademarked sticker...

For that much money you should definitely get an SSD. Everything else looks fine.

A 1060 is great for 1080, but forget 4k even if you have a tv.
Anyway, you'll be fine, but if want to play a lot, consider that laptops are not meant for that, the performance are ok, but I'm not sure about the temps if you want to use it as a console

You do know you could easily build an AMD based system for well under that $1500. I've done really decent gamers with AMD for around $700.
That said, yes that laptop will do all those games just fine, however it'll be running hot most of the time. Laptops just cant cool like desktops.

You should be fine at 1080p with those specs, but it doesn't seem like a great deal for $1500. If you wait for a sale, you can typically get a GTX 1070 and an SSD for under $1500 from Asus and MSI, among others.
Edit: As an example, if you want a 17" system, this is $1450, and has an SSD and a GTX 1070. It does use the slightly older i7-6700HQ, but the 7700HQ is only 2%-6% faster in CPU bound tasks.

If you're happy with Alienware build and support teams, then you've got yourself a winner for that amount of money. The specs are pretty great considering it's a laptop that doesn't break the scales in terms of weight.
One thing I would recommend is checking out if it has an m.2 slot and investing in an m.2 SSD instead of a 2.5/3.5" SSD as they're faster and more reliable and you won't be using the SSD as your go-to storage place for anything else but OS and a few games. ;)

I'm not gonna recommend you build your own if you don't want to. However, what I would say is if you don't have a reason to use a laptop, why not get a desktop instead? If you need to move the computer around a lot (like if you play at LAN parties or like to game on the go or whatever) then great, that's a solid laptop. But the only reason you cited is that you've never had a laptop before.
If you bought a desktop at that price you could easily get an SSD and much larger monitor. Probably a bigger drive too. Or you could get a better GPU instead. Either way, if the portability of a laptop isn't what's important to you, then you should go for a desktop instead

Might as well buy a console if you don't have the time to build your own gaming rig. Instead of playing TERA for over 2.5K hours, Skyrim for 500 and DS2 for almost 300 ... i think you could squeeze a total of 2-3 hours to throw you well earned money on something customized by you.

so I was given a limit of $1500 to spend on a new Alienware desktop (no I can't build and don't have the time and budget to do that) and was debating on a notebook instead as I have ever had one before.
So I was looking at an Alienware 17 with the following specs-
7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.8GHz w/ Turbo Boost) Only choice
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5
17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display
16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB)
1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s
Lithium Ion (68 Wh) Battery
So the most taxing games I own are DOOM, Fallout 4 and Shadow Over Mordor. Does anyone think that I could run those at max settings with minimal lag and not 4K as I don't have a 4K screen or tv?
Thanks.
