Which sale is bigger in terms of price drops and range of games on sale? The Winter sale or the Summer sale? Logic tells me that it would be the Winter sale, but this being my first Steam sale since I got money on my Steam wallet, I have no idea. :P

pretty much this... maybe you could say that the winter sale has very slightly lower price drops as most AAA games release in the fall and newer games obviously will get smaller reductions.

It depends on how they do the sale, but they both tend to have TONS of games... I've never really counted how many, but the summer ones tend to feel a bit bigger. With that said however there are constantly sales going on all over the internet that are for games that activate on Steam so you really should keep an eye out for those :)

Many of my best savings have not been from a Steam sale.

Yeah, there are plenty of amazing sales on Amazon and all those random European sites, but the thing is, I have no way to pay for them. :/ Getting Steam Wallet was quite difficult for me as Steam gift cards don't exist here in Australia (I ended up trading for one) and I don't have Paypal either.

One suggestion:Find a russian who buys the games for TF2 keys.

That's a huge gray area in the ToS, and lots of people don't like risking it. And then there's the whole issue of many games being region locked, especially with Australian censorship laws. Still, it's easy enough to find someone on Steamtrades that will do that, with a few traders doing it for almost no extra profit.

It's not a gray area in the TOS, not at all. It's completely allowed to trade with other people. If that would be a "gray area" in the TOS then we should all be banned or quit trading, because that gift you just traded with someone that's not a russian, could have originally came from the russian store. Dat logic. With region restrictions, you just can't activate those if they are region restricted, if you activate them anyway via VPN or anything, then you should expect to be banned.

They're pretty much analogous. It really depends more on which games go on sale in conjunction with what you're looking for.

I think they're the same. Really depends on the games that were released at what time. Sometimes, a certain sale might seem more incredible than the last simply because there were enough older games to have the 75% off label. :p

amazon sale is bigger and prices drop a lot more.

i remember when i purchased dungeon defenders from amazon, the 2-pack was at 5$ while on steam it was at 6-7$ and other places had it at 6$

since then i trust more on amazon

It's not the size of the sale, it's how they use it. :)
