Finally some good news from Microsoft,I am very curious what are they cooking and how will this compete with the PS4.

Good news? You know that the console is rumored to be always online, right?
Meh, I don't care about the Netbox 720. All I need is my PC and a 3DS.

Not to mention the rumours where Kinect is always watching, or the rumours where discs are permanently linked to one console...yeah, it's sounding awesome alright.

I know that; that's why it's called a rumour. But Microsoft has a tendency to go for the worst choice, and the rumours sound like something Microsoft would do...though the only way to know for sure is if they officially deny or confirm them. I'll wait and see, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

kinect always watching? there are laws protecting peoples privacy, this would be breaking them.

disks being linked to one console? without writing to the disk how would this be possible?

If the console is always online, then each disc could have a unique identification that would be linked to your console in one of Microsoft's databases. Probably easier said than done, but probably not impossible. Just like how we have steam keys linked to one steam account.

They already rumoured it's "Steam always online", not "Ubisoft/Sim City Always Online" - text about that here - "Durango itself will also always be online like any other device, but it will not be a requirement to play".

They've decided not to do the always online thing because of the negative feedback. They claimed that that wasn't ever an idea in the first place.

I can't wait to find out.. I love my Xbox - but also not happy about always on and be less happy if my XBLA can't transfer to new console..

Doesn't look promising if all the rumors about "always online" mode are true.

Some of my friends enjoy playing xbox games, however they live in places with very poor internet connection and only 1 ISP available.

I wouldn't be so sure about good news, but we will see. I'd personally like to see Xbox fail, since I never liked Microsoft on console market. All we need is Sony and Nintendo, always different and fresh. But that's, like, my opinion, so who cares.

I agree. If Microsoft isn't intending to listen to their customers complain about the mess they seem to be making of the next console, then they can fail miserably and leave the industry, for all I care. However, I doubt it'd happen that easily, or Apple wouldn't be around today.

I wouldn't call this a good anouncement because virtuarly every news site is reporting that the console will be always online

I think with the backlash, this will change. There have been more rumours stating that it will also be used as a cable/on demand tv box (thus the HDMI-in port). This would require an always on connection.

Seems a bit strange everyone has internet obviously, but complains about the online part...looking forward to the actual details from Microsoft.

I can't understand all the hate... I'm not a console fan, but if being online is the worst feature of the new Xbox, boo-fucking-hoo. everything else is pretty much always online and most sane people consider that good.
I'm also a bit surprised to see all the Sony fanboyism just a couple of years after the ps network mishaps.
meh, I think that like Apple, people like to bash Microsoft and then go ahead and buy their stuff anyway...

Most people dont get it. It isnt that much of a problem that it is always online, but the big problem is if the server wont work you cant play! And looking at Sims City, hacked Xbox Live and the all day long maintenances i just wouldnt belive this decision

Wtf, speak for yourself. There are alot of people that own xbox's just like myself and live in areas that internet connection is pretty much poor, so we play solo or co-op with friends on local.

I already tried connecting my 360 to my internet connection since i moved home, and it's impossible to connect unless i go spend lots of money on a high-speed connection like fiber cable... I even have a hard time connecting sometimes with my own computer.

That given, people inside a city are pretty much not going to give a f*ck just like yourself, but people who are forced to live outside the city like me, can't use said products that require a constant internet connection in order to run it properly. That's bs.

And before you go saying "it's your fault for living in a crappy place to begin with", it's not my fault. I used to live in a small apartment in a city where i had pretty good internets for a reasonable price but since my family likes to come and visit quite often, my parents decided it was time to buy a house with terrain in a peacefull place, that's what they did and i have to tag along.

I think he's referring to the rumour that the new xbox will require an always-on connection, even to play a single player game.

And that's what i discussed about, because he implies that being "always online" isn't much of a problem, the real problem is when maintenances occur or the central servers gets messed up and you can't play/get interrupted.

That said he clearly doesn't know what he is saying. If he actually thinks it's a good idea regardless of what things could happen for using such a system, i would call him a blockhead.

Look at steam for example, difference here is that steam doesn't force people to be online to play things, you can go offline mode and play. What was rumoured to come on the next xbox was a system that forces people to be always online, said system is the base support that will control the use of new games. Once you put the disc in, it automatically registers to your console, so selling it back or trading it back in a gaming store wouldn't work out. Imagine buying a product that u regret buying or doesn't work for some awkward reason in your system, you can't return it because it automatically registers once you use it in your console. That's gameover for the costumers.

Plus i heard some other crap that kinect was going to be used as some sort of feedback system aswell, like privacy invasion. Probably a method to keep hackers on the line and what things you used in your system. How would you feel having a kinect system in your console reporting information about your things back to the central server, imagine if the new xbox supports media transfer and you decide putting some of your favourites music/video clips into the system and microsoft is getting this sort of info has feedback.

tl;dr version

Microsoft is a steam wannabe but 10 times worst, if they actually pull this one out of their @sses, microsoft will be jumping out of the business after this big mistake they made with their latest invention.
People will still buy it obviously, but alot of people will consider buying a system that doesn't have such dumb requirements in order to use it, in a proper way. Or ignore consoles and stick with pc. Sega ran out of business in the console department, perhaps the runner up is going to be microsoft and their beloved failbox. And i was thinking nintendo would be the next one running out of business, i might be wrong on this one...

Microsoft is shit of company, for example PS3 have better graphics and is more durable than XBOX 360, and with XBOX 360 you always ahve to worry if something happens to your console or game saves, but XBOX 360 have better service so ppl prefer XBOX 360, including me.

Except good exlusive games, what i doubt looking at the xbox 360 ones, there wouldnt be any good reason to buy this minus Kinect and this always-online shit. And Sonys best feature is more stupid socializing and sharing. Seriously man?!
Ah i forgot, it seems the new Xbox is based on Windows 8. A console with windows.

If it's built anything like the 360 then will be taking a pass. My wifes 360 which she hasnt played a large amount is always red ringing on her. On the flip side my 1st gen PS3 has never had an error and doesnt chew up disks if you happen to let a stiff breeze hit the console

On to the PS4 for better quality regardless.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you can't be so sure about that... ps3 might have better quality than 360, but this time, both consoles seem to be coming out at the same time or close enough. Plus it's predicted that the ps4 is going to be around 25% cheaper than ps3 on launch, that pretty much makes me question myself, if it's going to be that much of an improvement over the old model.

Durango has no price tag confirmed, unlike the ps4. People say the system is going to be under the $450 price tag given the specs it has.

Then we have the steam box, which was rumoured to be the most expensive console coming in the next gen. Given that it's created by steam, it's probably more reliable than any other console from the next gen.

People don't want to pay so much for a console where you fight giant enemy crabs. Hardware got a lot cheaper after all those years.

If you don't like the price just wait for a sale. The sales on PSN are extremely quick and ridiculous. Far Cry 3 and Hitman: Absolution were both 50% off at the end of December.

I didnt know there were so many Sony fanboys in the world.

In the UK I knew 2 people with a ps3 and all of those had Xboxes too whereas any of my friends with a gaming interest had xboxes. Here in mexico, i know one person with a ps3 and that is only as a good blu-ray player.

All of my friends in the US that have PS3's have Xboxes and only ever use it for exclusives such as the Ghibli game.

I owned a ps3 for about 2 weeks and sold it to my brother in law as all the exclusives I wanted to play, sucked (See: Heavy Rain)

I don't care anymore, last time I really cared about consoles was back during the PS2 days, I partially cared about the Wii, it was alright, fun games, fun with friends, etc...but the PS3/Xbox 360 never truly appealed to me, I remember when console games were totally different from PC games, I liked that, Remember SNES/Gensis? Hell even up to PS2 for the most part had 90% unique games.

Consoles now seem like PC's you can't upgrade with most of the same games and a couple exclusives each, most of which are meh to me, thats how I see it now...Are new consoles bad? Nah, but if you have a gaming PC it seems almost pointless.
