Description

Yeah I was waiting for Prey 2 too but at least we got new Prey that is also good.

But I have never played Prey from 2006.

I was also waiting for Star Wars 1313 :(

R.I.P Star Wars 1313, at least we got Jedi Fallen Order coming

True but I wanted to play in Star Wars as someone who is not a Jedi for once :P

I'd much rather have had 1313 than the films. :P
Disney has done well enough with Marvel, but I'd much rather they had never gotten their hands on LucasArts. At the very least, I'd have preferred Rian Johnson [sole writer and director for Last Jedi] had never been involved with any of the film scripts..

General Star Wars gripes aside, 1313's gameplay demo really did make it look quite tasty. Ragtag sounded great as well, it's a pity EA didn't support that enough to see it through. The criticism they got from that led to us getting Fallen Order, which is good, but I get the impression Fallen Order is less ambitious in its core concept than the two previous, non-force-based offerings. It looks darn good, though, regardless (and perhaps more to the style of what we expect from Star Wars than the new trilogy).

Massive +1

Though I doubt EA will not massively dissapoint. I put zero faith in Fallen Order myself.

I put zero faith in Fallen Order myself.

The main issue likely won't be the game's quality [though recent games aren't necessarily encouraging in that regard] but the DLC policies. For a long time now, EA has specialized in year-by-year releases (and even those were dropped recently for not being as profitable as their other offerings), loot box / microtransaction based games, and exploitative, overpriced DLC practices [Two words: Bioware Points.]

Since they gave in to consumer pressure [following their mishandling of Ragtag] and are offering us a single-player game presumably not based in microtransactions, it seems like there'd be good odds of them presenting DLCs in a disfavorable manner. Well, it won't affect those gamers who really only care about the base game, but for those who prefer to wait for a complete game before playing (such as myself) it could end up being something of a dealbreaker.

Well, more specifically, it'd be a dealbreaker for the initial releases, it'd be a dealbreaker for their inevitable repackaging at a still-inflated price a decade later, and it'd be a dealbreaker through their consistent lack of sales following that. And while they give good games away for free, those never seem to be DLCs. Well, except for the occasional offering for their multiplayer FPS games, and presumably that's just to entice people into them, for more of those DLC purchases and microtransactions that EA loves so much.

So in short, maybe in 30 years they'll give the GOTY Enhanced Remaster Edition away for free or something and I'll actually be able to play it.

That sounds about right, right? :P

Really, I think the main reason GOG has a good reputation is just because it isn't EA, Valve, or Ubisoft. :P

With EA my worries is "everything" and yes that includes quality and micro's.
Cause backing out of your word or plain lying isn't uncommon in the gaming world.

I hear that the game actually did get coded in full, and then Gaben printed the code out to wear on the inside of his clothes.
Now, he goes around listening to gamers beg for the game, all while knowing that what they desire is there, right up against his skin.

This has been "Conspiracies with Sooth". Make sure to tune in next time, when I'll explain why EA is actually a front for the Illuminati!

(More seriously though, try the GoT RPG. Very rough but it's great)

the GoT RPG.

There are multiple tabletop systems, though? Or do you mean this game?
'cause if you mean that, I'll fully back the assertion of "rough but great".
It was clumsy in progression and mechanics at times, the graphics were muddy at times, and some of the interfaces could have used polish, but it was still one of the better games out there as far as narrative, immersion, and gameplay went.

Ahh thanks for the reminder! I've tried it a couple of years ago but got annoyed with the clunky controls.

Should give it another go, soon. :)

Honestly, the GoT RPG was outstanding. The combat was.. let's say not great, but the story was just superb. It carried whatever other flaws existed, and held its pace until the end. What a great game.

Hellraid, technically noone announced cancelation, but it's been 4 years since we heard last of it, seems it got dropped when Techland hit the jackpot with Dying Light and focused all it's forces on it instead.

I can't say it's cancelled but the dev stopped developing the game and is focusing on other projects.

i'll be surprised if anyone remembers this, there was an announcement of a Highlander game, probably 10 years ago that sounded awesome, was sad to hear it was cancelled. 3rd person action adventure, set in the past and modern time, death would be incorporated into the story a la shadow of mordor/war

Slightly tangential, but you reminded me that we've had two videogames based on The Darkness, but we've yet to get a single Witchblade [which has a shared universe with The Darkness] video game. I mean, yes, Witchblade has given us more in other mediums than Darkness, giving us both a TV series, manga, anime, and potential upcoming second TV series.. but, much like Highlander, it makes for a pretty solid action-adventure video game premise.

Well, I guess anyone who runs around with some sort of blade and gets into fights on a regular basis would do well in video games, though. :P Still, given how many famous historical figures and interesting original characters they've had wield the Witchblade, there's Assassin's Creed level franchise material there. Which.. okay, may not be the most encouraging of recommendations, but.. anyway. Well, maybe after the new TV show comes out [if it does, given the lack of news since January 2017], we'll finally see a game.

Uhm.. there's probably a bit less hope for any Highlander game, though.:/
Er, I mean, I guess technically there already is one, but, uh.
So yeah, we're still waiting on that first Highlander game, right. :P

Colonial Marines. What an epic fail :/

The real misfortune is that so few people have played the Jaguar Alien vs Predator game, due to its console exclusivity [and the Jaguar's relative obscurity, compared to mainstream consoles of the era]. It was arguably one of the best games of its era (though, of course, the graphics haven't aged well at all, now). I've found the very concepts of modern Alien games* to be letdowns, by comparison, even before considering their production shortcomings.

* [Speaking in regards to non-AvP games. There've actually been three AvP successors, in 1999, 2001, and 2010, but I found that the first two fell short compared to the earlier game, and reviews for the more recent one weren't too positive.]

There was an indie 2D stealth game in development that I was actively keeping an eye on, but then the devs announced it'd be co-op only. Apparently, people didn't like that idea much, because the game was cancelled shortly after.
