Hijacking top comment to let everyone know this was released on Game Pass for PC. So if you don't care that much about who provides your games, you can try out Game Pass for $1 and get both this and Persona 4.

I really wish they would combine Persona 3 Portable and FES to make a true clear cut best version. It's frustrating that no matter what version you play you're making sacrifices.
That aside, it's still one of the best games ever made regardless of which version one chooses to play.
The biggest content that is missing is The Answer - the "expansion" content that comes after FES in the story. I personally hated The Answer though so that wasn't a big loss for me, but I can see why some people might see that as a real drawback.
The other "missing" content is the fact that Portable changed the format slightly - they got rid of all of the animated cutscenes and just have still instead. If you've played other Persona games, you know that a huge portion of the game is running around in the world and talking with NPCs/etc. In Portable, they altered this to a more visual novel style where they just show the map and you move a cursor to choose interaction points. The dungeon is still the same though.
The other major downgrade is that some of the textures and sound are lower quality than they were in FES. This is the most disappointing part of the PC port - they seem to have not bothered to upgrade these for the PC version.
The other major difference is that Portable has a gender choice - there's a Female Main Character you can choose that alters many of the social links and some parts of the story. Personally I hope they release FES too, as neither FES nor Portable is really a "Definitive" version of the game.
not to sound like a complainer about the ga or anything, but i'm tired of these JP port releases that don't bother to give us definitive or best versions of the game. You'd think they could have taken the best of both and actually did a little bit of work - because inevitably people will start comparing emulated to the actual product. In some recent cases, the emu and/or fan patched mods are superior. I think i saw one that added back the anime cutscenes.
Having played this steam edition of Portable - I'm actually not sure I'd agree. I think the official steam release actually looks better than that, although admittedly it depends on how much you value being able to wander around during free time rather than the VN style interface
Thank you very much for the share, think I am going to hold off for now. Hoping that someone mods this with some of fan texture mods and cutscenes from FES to make a real definitive edition.
