Let's see if this years team will be able to actually win a title... or at least reach the final. France again has so much talent, but they have been there before in times of Abily, Necib and others. This might be the tourney the break the "curse", though sadly it will come at Germany's (my team) expense. But I still think Spain is the team to beat.

I like Germany almost as much as I like France, so I'm always torn when they play each other. I will still be rooting for Les Bleus, but I will be very happy for the German squad should they advance. However Spain will almost certainly be next...that is a tall order for either team.

What a sad match for the French. Even after the red card and penalty conversion, somehow they still played with less confidence than the Germans, who always maintained an inner belief in themselves that they could see this through. All of the fire was with the Germans, despite the position they put themselves in. (And I've never in my life of watching women's football seen a hair pull like that. She somehow seemed surprised by the red card.) This wasn't the team that beat England and came roaring back to take out the Dutch. That team played with confidence and drive. This team today was just afraid of their football bête noire, the German squad. They never played with urgency, then never brought the numbers forward (perhaps afraid of a counterattack, but that's still playing afraid). And the German keeper, Berger, what can I say. She's the heroine; the savior.
Congratulations to the German team and Germany overall.

I have no idea why Kathy Hendrich thought she shouldn't have been sent of. And what the hell made grab AND HOLD ON to Griedge Mbock's hair in the first place?!? Hendrich was right there, so there was no need for anything... and sure as hell not that.
France did put pressure on the German team, but never played their game. There was way less movement to their attack and they ended up playing the much more static game Germany wanted them to play. Even after Sjoeke Nüsken gifted her penalty shot to Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and there was a moment where Germany might have faltered...the French team didn't increase the pressure with more speed.
I'm not sure why Alice Sombath sent her penalty to that spot, since Berger jumped to her left every time. If Sombath wanted to shoot right, she should have targeted the upper corner... like Dallmann did.
And so another extremely talented French squad goes home early and will have to watch others play for the title.
Have a nice Sunday :-)
