Random (semi-)related facts that the title of this game consistently reminds me of: Benjamin Franklin famously said that "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes", which is probably the inspiration for the concept of this game. That sentence also inspired a big Europa Universalis III total conversion mod also called Death and Taxes. Another big total conversion mod for that game is called MEIOU, after the Habsburg motto. Along came Europa Universalis IV and the two projects merged for the name, creating a mod aptly called MEIOU and Taxes. I suppose those who arrived when MEIOU and Taxes was already a thing were probably confused by the name, but it was really obvious to those who were already playing EUIII when EUIV hadn't been released! :)
