At last, September. We had a brief relapse into parting-shot hot days but it was just a passing thing, fleeting and unconvincing like a threadbare argument. Last airs, shimmering already on far-off shores. It was a hot hot season, this one, and the summer sheen is quick to fall away. Autumn's crisp coarse swaying branches begin to poke through. Leaves have already started to fall, almost with relief. We've had a few days of soaking, mumbling rain.
