And just like that - you can snap your fingers here, if you like - the summer is over, at least as far as our American seasonal calendar landscape. Already these last few days have felt as if they're waning. The heart of the heat is dwindling, and soon our shirtsleeves will naturally fit best when they cover our arms. A night or two will suddenly be chilly, and the leaves will pale. The sky a scrubbed blue, fleetingly. It's time.
