Description

Mafia III is set in 1968. Tell me what your favourite movie from 1968 is. This way these message notifications will be more interesting than "thank you" all the time.

Wow, didn't notice all of these movies were from '68
2001: A Space Odyssey
Night of the living dead
once upon a time in the west
planet of the apes

Probably 2001: A Space Odyssey is my favorite of the bunch.

Yes, of course. But go check out some of them, there were great movies released in '68.

Unfortunately I have issues with concentration, it's really hard for me to watch almost any movie without getting distracted in first 5-10 minutes. Stuff like slow panoramic views almost instantly gets me looking away from screen and thinking about other stuff. But maybe there is something that you could still recommend to me?

Same happening here. 2001 sure is a masterpiece, but Kubrick just gets me bored. I can't focus.

From '68, I really recommend you Night of the Living Dead, as it is a classic for zombies fans.

Ok, let us check the convenient IMDB link with all movies from 1968, sorted by popularity....

So, from those, I would have to choose Once Upon a Time in the West. It is a wonderful movie... :D

Cheers!

Not really a fan of western movies, but that's one I really wanna watch.

It is a veeeeeery slow movie, and it is long, 2h45m in total... The opening scene, with the credits, takes over 10 minutes, people barely talk, there is almost no music, just a few, huh, slightly unsettling sounds and images. If you watch this scene and find it incredibly boring, this might not be the movie for you. That said, I loved it, because the scene gives you hints of what is going to happen next, so my mind kept wondering about those people and their purpose...

A lot of the movie is like this, but since the images are so striking and the music is so INCREDIBLE, I really enjoy the "waiting" periods. But this is not an "artsy" movie which is only images and music and mood -- there is occasional action, and there is a story here, and it is a damn good one.

(Quoting wikipedia: "The film features long, slow scenes in which there is very little dialogue and little happens, broken by brief and sudden violence. Leone was far more interested in the rituals preceding violence than in the violence itself. The tone of the film is consistent with the arid semi-desert in which the story unfolds, and imbues it with a feeling of realism that contrasts with the elaborately choreographed gunplay.")

Edit: I see you love Kubrick, so I am pretty sure you will have no problems with the rhythm of this movie. :D

Well, looking at how you described it it's right up my alley. I really don't mind those long, slow scenes. ^^

I had to google "The Great Silence" because I've never saw the english title of that film.
I'm not that big of a western film fan, but I'll check it out.

OMG, I was just looking at the movies from 68, and I LOVED The Love Bug when I was a kid! I also like Planet of the Apes, although I only watched it more recently. :)

Never knew that The Love Bug was from '68. I also watched it as a kid. Herbie is a legend!
And the original Planet of the Apes is a great movie. Imagine how the people reacted back then when they saw the end. :D

Haven't watched the new one with Lindsay Lohan though, have you?

Regarding Planet of the Apes, yeah, I felt it wasn't very novel when I watched it, but it must've been at the time!

Wow, quite a few films I really enjoy are from 1968 :D Classics like "Where Eagles Dare", "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "Night of the Living Dead", "Oliver" and "The Love Bug" :D

Not a big fan of war movies, that's why I haven't heard of "Where Eagles Dare". I only watched "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" last year for the first time and I loved it. Definitely a beautiful family movie I'd show to my kids (if I had any). Planning to watch "Night of the Living Dead" next month. Haven't watched "Oliver". And I loved "The Love Bug" as a kid. :D

My mum was crazy about them, the old black and white classics with Sir John Mills and the likes! Ice Cold in Alex, The Dambusters, The Guns of Navarone, so I was pretty much raised on them by her :D And yeah, the very same with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang \o/

Loved these old movies, my favorites are, in this order:
The Party (Peter Sellers)
Blackbeard's Ghost
Villa Rides
Planet of the Apes

"The Party" looks interesting, I'll check it out.
I think I've watched "Blackbeard's Ghost" as a kid. Ustinov's Blackbeard looks familiar.
Not a fan of western films, so I think I'll pass on "Villa Rides".
"Planet of the Apes" is a great movie, though. I wish I would've seen it when it came out. That spoiler at the end would've been much greater if I didn't knew about it before.

I really want to but something's keeping me from watching it. I feel like watching it on a computer (or even phone) screen just doesn't do it justice.

Oh yeah you don't want to watch it on the phone, oh the PC however i think it will do just fine, i personally watch alot of my movies on my PC and i have a 27 inch monitor and for me it's just fine, now would it be better if i had a bigger screen? of course, but i'm thinking at least i'm watching them rather than not watching anything cause i don't have this or can't do that.

Haven't watched that one yet and I kinda don't want to. At least until I've seen the play on stage.
To be honest, I think I've never watched a movie adaptation of a stage play. Wait. I watched Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood", which is based on Macbeth. But it's not actually an adaptation, I guess. So that's okay.

Such an amazing movie! And it still looks futuristic, despite being 51 years old. I've even heard people say that they thought it was made in the 80s or 90s, because it looks so good. :D

I'm not that big of a war movie fan, but maybe I'll check out "Where Eagles Dare" because of Clint Eastwood. We don't even need to start about 2001. It's one of the best movies ever!

And no problem. I got it from a mystery key thingy, but I already bought it a few months ago. So I thought "Why not make the nice people on steamgifts happy?" and here I am.
Good luck.
