Description

The Path is a short horror game inspired by older versions of Little Red Riding hood, set in modern day. It offers an atmospheric experience of exploration, discovery and introspection through a unique form of gameplay, designed to immerse you deeply into its dark themes.

(Instead of thanking me, how's about giving me some recommendations for books/manga that are real mind screws? Like, for example, House of Leaves or Puella Magi Madoka Magica? The darker and more hopeless, the better.)

Didn't read yours but here is my choice for mind screws manga " MPD - Psycho "

Oh god, I remember that one. I couldn't finish it because the gore got to me after a while, but I gave it a good try.

It's funny. I can read stuff like Gantz, which is darker than dark, or Kurosaki Corpse Delivery Service, which is morbid but funny at times, but you give me MPD Psycho levels of gore and I'm noping the fuck out.

LoL
MPD is dark not because of some gore , but because it is Psycho from where this all came :D #1Hitchcock rules
I also love "GANGSTA" it is action with sorrow past and unstable future full of fights but not really so dark.
Try "Island of the Black Shrine" ( Kokushi no Shima ) so far I read it is interesting thriller
all ugliest humans sides exploited here "Wolf Guy - Wolfen Crest" and "Akumetsu" from this mangaka
And good one horror read recently "Manhole" and "Hideout " :D

I can't think of any books, and I don't read much manga (though look into Junji Ito if you're not already familiar), so how about a movie? Memento is definitely full of the most mindfuckery of any film I've ever seen.

I have that saved in my Netflix queue somewhere, but haven't had the time or interest to watch. Is there anything you can tell me about it that will convince me to watch without spoiling anything big?

Well, the premise involves a man who can't remember anything and is struggling to deal with some really heavy, mysterious shit. Not everything is going to be as it seems, of course, when you're the guy who can't remember why you're waking up where you are in the morning.

Robert Heinlein's short story called “--All You Zombies--”. Time travelling always leads to mind screws.

Ooooh, Heinlein. I've read a few of his novels, but I never thought to dip into his short story work. Thank you!

Oh, the one with the spirals? I think I've read most, if not all, of that one. Left me feeling unsettled for days.

The White People by Arthur Machen is to me the best horror story ever written. Its not conventional horror and you won't be scared by it (at least i wasn't) but it makes you question what is horror in itself.

Also Great God Pan in that link is really good too. Enjoy =D

Manga "Distant Sky" , "Freesia" and, of course, some good stories from R. Howard (e.g. "Pigeons from Hell" and "Wings in the Night").

You rock! I read The Enigma of Amigara Fault a long time ago online, but stupidly forgot to bookmark the site I read it on in case I wanted to read it again. I'm definitely gonna save it this time!

Read that and Love in the Time of Cholera about ten years back when I was on a Latin American writers kick. Damn good book.

Shame the author is no longer with us. But that's life.

I don't read manga so I won't recomend you any. From books I recomend you books by Simon Beckett - maybe not something like the books you listed, but still good. In my opinion the first book(The Chemistry of Death) is best and I think you'll like it. In some moments it's a bit macabric - like when doctor realised that killer put dead rabbits inside body of dead woman.(I won't spolier other moments)
Thanks for recomendation of House of Leaves - I think I will read it, when polish version will be relased(and it should be this year). I read a bit in internet about what is this book about and I'm curious- is this The Navidson Record a real movie or it's only in this book?

That's the thing - no one knows. According to the links in the book, which all worked when I read the book, the Navidson Record is a real movie, but I've never seen or heard of it before. And I certainly haven't ever seen it mentioned in the media. So I really don't know what to make of it.

As for the book, I'll give it a try, but I'm really weak about stuff like dead animals. I've been traumatized before by Pet Semetary and Poe's The Black Cat - they both gave me reoccurring nightmares for weeks as well as fueling some wicked hallucinations. I still get freaked out when I walk past roadkill on the side of the road sometimes because I half expect the poor bastards to come to life.

Good ol' Devilman, by Go Nagai, is a classic that I think will suit you just fine. There was an anime version that was -hugely- lightened up by comparison to the manga. It's an old manga, so the visual style might conceivably throw you a little, but if that doesn't spoil it for you, you might find it quite enjoyable. On the surface level it seems like a pretty typical shounen superhero manga, but things get... dark.

Heh. I'm actually a big fan of the old style of manga, a huge shounen nerd, and I love dark stuff, so it sounds like Devilman might be right up my alley.

All I'm worried about is if I can find it in print after all this time or if it's so old that I'll only be able to find bits and pieces on a streaming site. I won't read incomplete manga like that if I can help it - it's a real letdown to find that I've read all there is online because manga's hard to come by where I live. Even the library only carries mainstream stuff.

Devilman's available online in its entirety on various manga sites, if you've no ethical objections to reading it that way. I think finding it in print might be kind of difficult. Sounds like you might really enjoy it though!
