When you feel like you've played all the adventure games that are already out there (although I hadn't, not by a long shot), and another surreally beautiful game comes along like Syberia, it's like being surprised with a getaway journey to a new and wonderful land. Games like this are why these old point-and-clicks also come with the name "adventure." I re-played through Syberia not so long ago, and it mostly holds up, but there are occasional technical issues as well. (Save your game in Barrockstadt after you get the berries.) It's by no means a perfect game, but it's still a solid title with a lot of imagination that I can look back on fondly.

The sequel helped finish the first game's story, although the puzzles in that one get a little more obtuse and frustrating as you go along. I have not yet played the third game in the series (and the choice to have DLC that wasn't simply a soundtrack was disappointing). Nor have I played BenoƮt Sokal's older game, Amerzone, though I've been meaning to for well over a decade now.

Haven't played the sequel which I won here because I don't want to spoil myself any plot details regarding this one. Let's hope I get lucky... or at least in some future GA. OK, I guess I could also just buy it on a sale, but that's not as exciting as winning it here, is it?

This is my all time favorite between adventure games (with The Longest Journey, only this game evoked similr feelings). Story, characters, music - all this is excellent for me.
In my opinion, the sequel loses in comparison with the first part, and not only with the puzzles. I generally think that the second part was not so necessary. Although this is still a good game, but it lacks the charm that was in the first Syberia (at least for me, since this was my first adventure game).

Agreed, there was definitely something special about this first Syberia game. My memories of it even go right back to first playing the demo... I really want to mention the ambiance of the cinematics from just that first village (which is what the demo was), but it's probably better to leave them as something for a new player to discover on their own. :)

Honestly, I wasn't impressed when looked at the game at first time, the opening cinematic also seemed strange to me, but after awhile I couldn't tear myself away. And the final cinematic is perfect, of course. The game set a high bar for games of this genre in many aspects.
