I first bought this game for the Panasonic 3do. It was both stunning and infuriating to play. The controls are clunky, the checkpoint system can be frustratingly spaced around difficult parts, and there's the classic element of trial-and-error to figure out just what you're supposed to do. It's a game I still love and I replayed this Steam version several months back. :)

One of the best and most frustrating games :) Old-school hard, combining puzzle with action. The Steam version ups the frustration level by randomly crashing for some people. :P
The sequel "Heart of the Alien" was a really tough game as well!

is that the same as the sequel "fade to black" or a different one? I haven't tried either, but was interested to.

I believe that was a sequel to Flashback. Flashback is very similar to Out Of This World/Another World (similar art style, gameplay style, both made by French devs, both published by Delphine) but they are otherwise unrelated game franchises as far as I know.
"Heart of the Alien" was released exclusively on Sega CD in North America only. It had exactly the same art style and gameplay mechanics as the first game in the series, so it felt more like a true sequel. The story picks up right where the first game left off. The game disc also includes the original Out Of This World game. It sells for about 75 bucks on eBay these days but if you don't have a Sega CD you can download it and play it in an emulator. Or just watch a gameplay video on Youtube (spoiler alert) https://youtu.be/cW4RBhXPRUY?t=1324

Yep, totally right - but yes, they were both rotoscoped adventures by delphine software, as you said. I'll have to look into it now :)

I so loved this game back on the Genesis.
I am glad I have my copy of this on GOG.com

Played it on my Amiga. I always loved it and it's still one of the greatest 2D games ever created.

Man this is a great game. I bought this and the first Marathon from some Mac magazine to play on our LC III.

The 3DO? It had this (supposedly) amazing Alien game which was all the rage about and I never got to play it \o/

One of my favourite Amiga's game!

Never finished it, either on the Amiga or on Android, but I enjoyed it, and it was quite a cinematic experience for the Amiga.

Ooh a fellow 3DO owner :)
Do you remember this one?

I do from magazines. I never had it. I do still have my 3do and about 25 big box games or so. It's nice to meet another 3do owner/someone who knows what it even is! :D

It does feel like we are a rare breed, but if you think about it there is one of us (more or less) for every console that Trip Hawkins managed to sell :)

I do actually remember this, played it on my cousin's PC way back in the day.

Best. Game. EVAH. Back in the time when my brother and I only had one game at a time, frustration and difficulty were desirable traits in a game. It prolonged it's life.
Nowadays I can finish this game in a heartbeat, but the love, the love is still here <3 .

This one was great, but I somewhat preferred Flashback.
