Cute action game that is the predecessor to Momodora: Reverie in the Moonlight. Haven't played 1 or 2? Don't fret; the developer is giving them away for free! https://rdein.itch.io/
ADDENDUM: I've since played the trilogy while I was out of town, and the series goes like this:
Momodora is a pretty straightforward Platformer that is heavily reminiscent of Cave Story, but has plenty of secrets to find along the way.
Momodora 2 is a Platventure (think Super Metroid), but a very small one; I finished it in about an hour.
Momodora 3 goes back to straight Platformer, but you can revisit earlier worlds, and there are some secrets to find, as well as items to equip; it's much more polished than the original.
Happy pride month, everyone!

Honestly, I've only ever played Reverie in the Moonlight, not even knowing that it was 4th in the series, and it's pretty good. It's definitely on the harder side at first, but by the end, I was almost untouchable.

Thanks for the GA, I really enjoyed Reverie in the Moonlight

You're quite welcome! As I understand it, the others are more like an arcade-style Cave Story, but that's not a bad thing, either.

I looked at the 1st and 2nd game at the link you posted. They look cool BUT my biggest complaint is that the early games don't have controller support!

That's good to know; thanks! I'm going to be skipping town, soon, so I'll play them on my laptop, since I don't feel like bringing my controller.

Skipping town? So the authorities have finally found out what you've done, huh?

2 is a really small Metroidvania. 1 is linear, 3 is also level based but has a few in-level forking paths and minor repeat visit secrets.

I actually JUST found that out, while I was out of town last week, but thank you for the info!
