It's the opposite for me, they peaked with Angela imo. The Alissa era feels kinda mediocre to me. But I'm also in the camp that really liked the Johan Liiva years. I don't have anything against Alissa, she's obviously very talented, the new stuff just doesn't give me the Arch Enemy feeling...
I highly recommend it. I just played it last month, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The story and setting are unusual and interesting, the combat is interesting and fun, the characters are great, the music is fantastic, and the boss fights are awesome. The game switches things up regularly during combat, so you go from 3rd-person action RPG to side-scrolling platformer to top-down bullet-hell. Fighting a giant boss across the whole town feels epic.
Sure, it's a little clunky, the side quests are almost all tedious gather X or fetch quests, and it looks more like a PS2 game or like vaseline has been smeared over the screen. It's clear that the studio had more ambition than they did time/funding/ability. But I still found it to be a delightful and unusual RPG that I enjoyed from beginning to end.
The game is on my wishlist too, so thanks for the giveaway, but more than that, thanks for the music! For some reason that album flew under my radar this year (I don't have as much time for music (or games) as I used to), and it's right up my alley. Gonna be in my playlist all week :)
They're on spotify though, which is where I find all my music these days ;) Anyway, really enjoying it -- people say it's somewhere between Kamelot and Nightwish, I guess for me it has to be closer to Kamelot as I love them but absolutely can't stand Nightwish ;)
