Growing up, I was interested in both Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, and collected the cards for both. While my interest was in the franchises in general, I leaned more towards the games and shows, and eventually gave my Yu-Gi-Oh cards to a friend that actually played. I kept the Pokemon cards though, packed away somewhere.
Used to play magic the gathering with friends a lot but was too cheap to actually get those cards.. a friend of mine had enough decks to keep that covered tho =D Also enjoyed YuGiOh later on, mainly because the handheld nintendo games were pretty good

I played Pokemon TCG back on a Gameboy Colour emulator in the early 2000s :D
More fresh card game experience was Gems of War (CCG/Match-3 hybrid) that I spent a few months with.
