If you could work any job, what would it be?

I'm software developer and it is pretty much the job I want. But I understand it's nothing for everyone. What is yours?

To create things. Things that would entertain people in a way, that could make them forget their real life - for the duration of the ''entertainment.''
For now I just need to do a few things... finish my book, than finish a script for a movie, write another book and yada yada... for now I'm just daydreaming, while working as an tehnican, but who knows. I put the hours into that book, but I still have a long way to go; need to find an editor too. Hey, life is good! Do what you like, while you can, right?

Interesting to see it from your perspective. Before being into IT I was a cameraman for movies. I guess I get your point there. But I understood (for myself at least) that making something technical is creative, too. You build something that makes the lifes of others better. And not over the period of a two hour movie or maybe a hundret pages book, but for their life. So maybe it inspires you to see it from that perspective.

But true, I understand, the "fine arts" are something different and coming to a party as "the movie guy" surely works different that "the IT nerd" but then again, it makes me happy and the payment is far better so I see this as a passionate hobby now. I seriously wish, you come to that point between satisfaction and serenitiy, too!

I was just suppressing my creative mind for way to long (Jesus, I hope I don't sound like some narcissistic fgt :D).
I am currently happy and calm in my life, but I am just not working the right job. I mean technically (pun intended), I am creating things in the form of sensors (for cars and airplanes), but I am just not creating things, that I would love to create - like good stories.
Knowing how hard it is to find the right job, can be stressful and depressing, but I like to think that once you find your passion you should stick to it; if you don't you just waste your talent and turn it into a hobby (sometimes, that happens, when you are afraid to lose your current job, because of the fear of unemployment).

Ah, I see. So the real benefit is also probably not really visible. I understand.
However, maybe it is good to consider writing as a hobby instead of a fulltime job. Or at least be aware that earning money from that is really hard. Not sure wheter you (plan to) have family etc. but that can be hard then. And (at least it was the case for me) when you do what you love but can't live from that, it spoils the enjoyment a lot.
Now that I have a nice job and the safety coming with it, it also feels good enough to do it at 50% level and not worrying whether I am good enough.
Or in other words, maybe with another job, you can afford making it the way you want it, instead of the way, you assume it sells the best.

In anyway, life is to short to make things you don't like. I hope you find what makes you happy.

I gonna start with adding you to my whitelist here.

I agree with you, and for now I am on full job as a tehnician, while writing the book (6 months into the book so far) as a you said, I do it as a ''hobby.''
Life is harsh as you say, but everything can happen in a split second.
P.S.
I am happy that you've found your way, because very little % of the people achieve that.
I have also added you to my whitelist and you can always add me in Steam.

Hey, sorry, took me a while. I just sent you an invitation. No urge however. Honestly I neglect my Steam friends a lot. After all, I'm playing there, not solcialising. However, feel free to become my newest friend.

I study history in university, currently on the last stages of writing my thesis. But getting a job in the area is almost impossible. In my country, even having a masters degree in history, I can't teach history (be it in university, or in a school). The only possible job is to work at a museum. The problem is the people that already work at the museums, none of them are going to leave their jobs (because there are so few), and when someone retires, most of the time they close their positions... So, having all of that into account, the job that I wish the most right now is to try to work at a bookstore. I've recently found a passion regarding books, I read more books last year than in my entire life (still not many). And that passion came from starting to plan my own book!

Tell me about your book, i'm very curious about it. Is there any place where I can follow you and get notified when you get your book finished? In what language are you writing? :)

Hey I can relate so much in the '' read more books last year than in my entire life '' and about your job, why don't you go in another country, when your own country doesn't have what you deserve? The book is in English. Also you can add me in steam so we can chat there. I'll be happy to talk.

Good point, I would like to have a look at your book, too.

And about doing history, I have a friend with similar interests. I guess these subjects only work out if you add something to it.
A bit like a language. Speaking Chinese at itself is maybe not great, but the moment you study economy, it all makes sense in a great synergy. Perhaps it's the same. And it is never too late to learn something new. Let nobody tell you that!
