Hmmmmm, hmmmmmmmmmmmm .... if Metroidvania is really your favorite genre you should give La-Mulana another try. Because in terms of map- and level design you will not find a better Metroidvania game.

Asfk I actually like the map and level design for La-Mulana a lot it's the movement/controls that was anoying me...but I'll keep that in mind and try it again sometime.
I'be beaten cave story (the shareware version plus recently the updated version) over 17 times in the last idk like 12-13 or so years.
I say metroidvania is my favorite genre and it is but I'm kinda just pulling from the sprawling level design cause I also like non platformers with non linear game play and backtracking and stuff. (ie dark souls is sprawling but it doesn't count as metroidvania).

La-Mulana is such a fun game, but I have a lot of bias for it. Movement is a bit odd, but I guess it didn't bother me as much as I've heard it can bother other people.
The game has a lot of exploration and items to find, and that is the most simple recipe to get me to play games almost. You should try it again if you haven't played it much and see if you can enjoy or appreciate it. The puzzles can be the worst part as some are rather cryptic.. to solve. I gave up at some point and just used a guide for some parts.

You should look on Owlboy from the current HB, they've made a very nice looking game with pixel art. Usually "pixel art" results in plain ugly bs but they managed to do something decent there, waaay beyond most games being released nowadays.

I'm... not sure if I should enter for this game, tbh. It looks great and all, but I tend to wait out till Early Access games get finished before playing them (Darkest Dungeon was an exception because awesome narrator voice!) and according to the store page it could take up to an year before the game is fully done. I guess I shouldn't take the chances from others.

thanks again, but it is also a genre I don't usually play. I haven't always thought this way, but at some point I decided that by winning games that I don't plan on playing is kind of weird, especially as I don't collect games.
