The Stage

Today we are starting in Philippe Gilbert’s home town, two days before his 35th birthday.

Also no surprise that the final today is pretty much right up his alley. Expect to see the usual names from the spring classics; Peter Sagan, Greg Van Avermaet, Michael Matthews, Alejandro Valverde, Dan Martin, etc. The GC riders will have to make sure not to lose any time (and maybe even gain some bonus seconds) so it's going to be quite packed up that last climb. The S bend just before the last kilometre could take a few favorites out of the running.

Trivia: We've been in Germany and today we'll be in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France; a nice part of the Western Front.

Winner: Peter Sagan

Tour Touristique

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps motor-racing circuit is the venue of the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix. The most famous part of the circuit is the Eau Rouge / Raidillon combination. Having negotiated the La Source hairpin, drivers race down a straight to the point where the track crosses the Eau Rouge stream for the first time, before being launched steeply uphill into a sweeping left-right-left collection of corners with a blind summit.

I'm torn between Sagan and Gilbert but I'll go with hometown boy Gilbert!

That was damn close!!!

Sagan getting his foot off the pedal and then still being able to beat Matthews, Daniel Martin, and Van Avermaet, chapeau!

Edit: where was Gilbert?

Yep, I thought the QuickStep rider was him but... it was Martin instead. Missing in action :)?
Anyway, so glad for Sagan, he is THE man!
