That might seems like a regular small giveaway, but to me it's something more. Bear with me and I will explain :)

Lately I came to a conclusion that if SG would be a game its genre will be "disappointment simulator". There are so many people here who makes me question if I belong to this place.

Like people who never gave away anything and are comfortable to win hundreds of games (or even worse, who are giving away only sh*t and leaching good games), or never say simple "thank you" after winning. Or people who never plays their wins... Or people who are abusing rules just to get +1 for their library in closed groups while reducing chances for wins for a respectable members of these groups who are actually treats games as games... Autojoiners and multiaccounts... There are dozens of reasons that disappoint me and make me question my presence here.

BUT! There are some really nice people, who balancing it and, well, comforts me. One of such people made a discussion about who have what games in their wishlists. I participated in it and after awhile they reached me and said "I see you wanted Voidigo and I don't so you can have my key". Nothing asked in return, there was zero profit in this action.

I don't have problems buying games, I have problems with free time to play them :) I would most likely politely refuse the gift another day... But that was a very well timed gift, as next day I had a small operation to remove a small tumor and that kind of random kindness really cheered me up.

Month later I finally played the game and it was good :) So this giveaway is possible only thanks to and in the name of kind people who are balancing SG and making it a better place :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience! I expect most will gloss over this in their rush to see more train carts, but I wanted to let you know that it's sentiments like yours that make SG a really nice community.

Hope all went well with your surgery.

I usually have low expectations so I can't be disappointed that easily :)
CG and mods usually reacts to what exploiters do, but it takes time. All we can do, as users is to report problems and rulebreakers and hope that it will be adressed one day or another :)
Funny that you speak about somebody giving you game from your wishlist without raffle - It happened to me as well and sure it was nice. Sadly - it was part of saying goodbye by that person - he haven't log in on steamgifts since then :(

To sum up - for me SG is "satisfaction simulator"... maybe. And yet - I still think about taking a break due to lack of time. I mean - if I don't have time to play my games - what's the point in winning new ones?

I usually have low expectations so I can't be disappointed that easily :)

I keep lowering my expectations... With every other giveaway. But.... Like last of my winners has ratio 0.12, out of ~50 given away "games" there are almost nothing that can be called games, last "giveaway" was almost year ago, and he is not saying anything in giveaways he won... (I'm calming myself by thoughts that, at least, he is not an autojoiner). Like, really, is it that hard to say "thanks" - that was my only expectation at that moment :) Guess I need to lower expectations below level of "at least people should be thankful for free stuff" :)

True. I made few reports that resulted in temporary or permanent suspensions. But at some point, I began to fear that I might turn into a "witch hunter"... Not something I want to do here. So I'm forcing my self (sometime unsuccessfully) not to investigate online activities of participants or winners of my giveaways.

Sad short story :( I hope they left for the good :(

I'm trying to follow the rule: The longer the game and the higher chances of winning - less likely I will join the giveaway. For example I'm ignoring most of whitelisted or group giveaways with low amount of participants if I know I won't have time to play the game in near future (the shorter the game, the more chances that I will join the giveaway), on another hand I can join giveaway of something big (like The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series with 45 hours of gameplay) if my chances of winning like 0.04% :)

So far I feels like it is working for me, I still can dig through giveaways and learn about the games I never heard before while not thinking too much about what to do with all that games I won (keeping my chances for wining low) :)

That's a funny picture - even though it isn't meant to be. What protest was it used at?

I understand your frustrations with bad users completely, that's the reason most of my giveaways are now in groups where the members have been vetted or are required to keep some standard. For public giveaways I prefer to set a level requirement and if possible a ratio check with SGTools.

For the giveaways I enter, I also limit myself to the games I'm sure I would enjoy or at least try out. And when I finish them I also try to update the host to let him know I enjoyed it. 😊

Wishing you good health, plenty of game time and sending positive vibes your way! 🤗

I believe photo was taking during Anti-Trump protests in USA. But I' not sure for 100%.

I know this lowering the expectations but i say at some point is the finish line with the lowering.
For me is this as example when someone don't know the word "thanks" after a win and show that he don't have basic manners.
If i would have more as 1k BL space, i would add each of this guys to my BL, because i have only 1k BL space i add there only level 5 and higher accounts that do such stuff, but i note each one of the "don't know the word thanks" accounts and as soon as they are high enough or my BL can have more as 1k , they will be added.

And the most people in my group or at least the discord expect a thanks, as absolute minimum, too. And a part of them BL much lower ones as Level 5.

I would say than you reported the right ones. And i would not call it witch hunt because this impl. that it isn't justified and that other ones are involved too that you animated to do something. From what you write it sounds for me as a normal hunt (which is different, not include other people that you motivate to something etc.).

Don't get so extreme as i were and all is good :-D

I wish you continued good health, more positive experiences and more free time to play games (which I badly need as well!)

PS: I know you'll decline the offer, but if you ever want a copy of Superhot, I have a copy waiting for you. I saw it on your list in the wishlist discussion :)

Thank you for whishes, kind words and offer! But I would decline indeed :)

Not only your words are already a good gift by itself... But I also plan to win it on SG - Superhot games are making 10,5% of all my entries so far (275 entries out of 2,618). I think it will be very pleasant to exactly win them :)

It’s hard if your steam name matches your SG name, but you can add them on steam without saying your SG name or hope they don’t check :) If that person has won one of your giveaways before, iirc you could also use their email to send them something.

I kind of have a lot to say, but I am not really sure what to say.

First, I am glad the the operation went well, and that you went in cheered up. Hope the tests results are ok too.
How are you feeling now btw?

Well, SG has been both a great experience and a huge disappointed to me too.
It has it's share of good people and, well, an abundance of bad people. But I thing that's how most "public" communities will be, specially one where one could profit by being a part of it. So, in a way, I don't really blame SG for that, as that's how people are, probably.
Though there are quite many things I blame SG for. Most importantly, that SG could have been built and managed better to fight off the unpleasant people. I know there are some measures in place, but not enough.

I began to fear that I might turn into a "witch hunter"... Not something I want to do here

Lol... I believe I have turned into one. And I don't like it. Specially because the more I try to hunt down the bad people, the more it feels like an endless uphill battle, where my loss it determined.
So, don't turn into one.

As for trying to play the games you win, I believe you are already aware of most of them (I believe I have seen your around on most of them), but just in case you missed any of these, here are some groups/events I think can help: PAGYWOSG, Playing Matters, Paying Appreciated, Play or Pay, BLAEO, Monthly in a Month. Of course, you still need to make time to play the games though.

Thanks! Operation went well, I feel my self good/normal, results/tests will be ready later (but there is no reason to worry that something should be bad).

I can agree. Sometimes it feels like one who own the thing is not actually interested in it.

Exactly! That is the problem. When you do something like this... You start to realize how deep the rabbit hole goes... It can discourage you from doing anything.

Thanks! Yes, know all of them and planning to join if not all but most of them. Already enjoying being part of PAGYWOSG and PA "movements". Also joined BLAEO (not group, but service). Next planned stop is PM group, just need to get my tenth win :)

Sadly, that is a common notion here. So, it might very well be true.

Anyway, overall, I feel I might be able to stick around here. I have kind of gotten addicted to the gambling like nature of the site. 😅
Also, another thing, I don't mind leeches (even those who haven't given away even a single game), as long as they are good people (don't get into unnecessary arguments, thank the GA creator, etc) and don't break other rules. I think there might be many who can't afford to or have the means to give away to others. And, I also hope this site proves to be the most beneficial to such people.

With all due respect, I think that in any community of people (the more, the more certain), there are bound to be people who differ. Let's say they will present the features of society in miniature. If there are wicked people in society, then there will be wicked people in a community. If there are kind people in a society, there will be in the community.
So I would say that every community is a society simulation.
I wish you a good recovery and the best possible results :)

I feel you. :P
But as you said, there are also quite a few nice people who make it worth your while. The same goes for "real life" - I tend to focus on the positive experiences and I realise that if I enter an encounter in a positive way, it usually develops in a good direction.

Even if I nearly get hit by a car (happens more often than I would like when I am cycling, because many drivers underestimate my speed) and need to make an emergency brake or maneuver, I don't start blaming the other person but breathe first after the situation is resolved without death or injury. ;)
Most of the time they have apologised by then and I simply smile, give a thumbs up and on I go. A trivial example, but one I try to apply to all encounters. And I can see the difference it makes in my life and the lives of others.

I hope all went well with your surgery and you are on your way to full recovery!! 💙

That's me with anything related to kindness / intelligence in humans in general, as witnessed so often when looking for example at the environment.

But I learned how important it is to focus on the small things and interactions with people I meet in person, as opposed to "humanity" or groups of people. Keeps me somewhat sane. ;)

Hmm, I think the only thing that really bothers me out of what you mentioned is people not saying thank you! I don’t blacklist for it or anything, but I do find it a bit depressing when it happens. At one point someone sent me a demanding message after 24 hours asking where their game was, but didn’t say thank you after I responded and sent it to them…that bothered me in spite of myself.

But I don’t at all mind people who are here for a +1 or folks who get rid of the “trash games” they got in a bundle—to me, those two kinds of people are a perfect match, people who don’t want even their “bad” games to go to waste and want to find someone who wants it, and people who are collecting rather than playing who’ll be happy to get those games.

people not saying thank you

That is the biggest thing that revolts me. I can't come up about excuses for not doing it :/ It is very simple and effortless...

But I don’t at all mind people who are here for a +1 or folks who get rid of the “trash games” they got in a bundle

In common me too. I wouldn't blacklist person who is not doing giveaways or making them rare. But there are some people who is pumping CV by giving away stuff that in no way can be considered as a game, those titles even don't give +1 to game count. It doesn't look right at all, also it forcing some other users to set higher CV lvl requirements for their giveaways.

Voidigo is too addictive for it's own good, I had to drop it and move on to finishing my other games but plan on coming back to it, maybe when it's out of early access. One of those games I wouldn't have tried if not for it's inclusion in Humble Choice.

I'm pretty new to the SG community and was lucky to meet great people who gave me a better understanding of how to enjoy it most and what to be careful of, so, so far, I haven't had a reason to be disappointed in it, but I can understand that for those who've been here for years and have seen the site's growth and all, there must be loads of stuff they'd rather not have experienced.

It's really nice how many amazing folks we have on this site. Someone once saw how much I wanted the original flash version of The Binding of Isaac, and gave it to me. I know it's just a "worthless" bundle game to some, but it's one of the best games from one of my most favorite game developers. I really appreciate the gift. I think the 200 hours spent on it says that by itself. I'll be playing more of it in the future, too.

I'm so happy that moment of kindness made your day. You seem really cool, and deserve that sort of joy.

And The Binding of Isaac is so great! Played "non steam" version in 2012 and later bought The Binding Of Isaac with Wrath of the Lamb to support developer and for collection. I'm very afraid to launch it, since you can go there for tens of hours before it will let you go ...
