Alright, I'll bite. I find myself trying to get her and myself in a comfotable mindset. Dating is all about getting to know one another. It's a slow process that takes time and can be pretty uncomfortable (especially at first). Once you've established a connection, it gets a lot easier to say "as long as we're together, it's a date ❤"

Combining it with a fun activity. Going to the theater, visiing anoter city, etc. Even if the date turns out bad, you still had a nice day out (which you might not have got off your butt for if you didn't have the added incentive of meeting somebody interesting)

Don't make yourself better or worse, you don't want to end up with a person who isn't in love with who you really are.

It's been .... let's just say 'many' ... years since I've been on a date.
I think besides the (hopefully) obvious thing of being clean and well dressed, the location should be nice and offer some things to focus on if conversations slows down - wether that's because both are shy or whatever other reason there may be.
Other than those general things, I think just being yourself is fine, sure, you can say 'don't only talk about yourself', 'don't swear' and such things, but if that's what you always do, why hide it and let the other person see someone who you are not?
Rather be how you are and let her/him decide if that is what they want.
