Two of my favourite P&C games of all time were Maniac Mansion (way back on the C64) and it's sequel Day of the Tentacle (talkie version! LOL! That is what they called it because it was on CD and it had speech instead of just text).
I have them both (Full Throttle on Steam). But I've never played it.
I remember the King's Quest games as well. The Quest For Glory games (well. 4 since that was the only one I played) were neat. If you were a Paladin carried over from QfG 3 (I think), you got an option at a certain part of the game that was only available to a Paladin.
I think they did dial down the difficulty for the sequel. The first one was really hard (and they didn't have the options for clues like they do now). I completed them both. Very fun! And did you know that you could play the ENTIRE Maniac Mansion in Day of the Tentacle?

Day of the tentacle was such a blast, played both the only text and voiced.
I tried maniac mansion but it was so hard and the nurse always got me 🤣
