Instead of thanks, I'd like movie recommendations. Good ones earn a spot on my whitelist.

Blatantly bot-like behavior earns a spot on my blacklist.

Watch Song of the Sea. It's great and it's very different from Hollywood animation, which is refreshing.

Looks interesting. Apparently directed by the same guy as The Secret of Kells which I've also heard good things about.

Secret of Kells is pretty cool too, but at some parts it feels like those Christian cartoons they showed on TV in 90s (except SoK has infinitely better animation).

Dunno what type of movies you like, but I just watched Pulp Fiction again, so I'll recommend that.

If you like games like Red Faction, you'll probably enjoy The Expendables :)
But i think almost everone has sawn them already.

PS: The second is the best

I've actually managed to miss the entire series... That cast is pretty impressive, though. Will I be lost if I skip straight to the second?

It's better if you watch the first... that's the best film of the trilogy.

Great movie.

Borderline boring anecdote: I saw that movie after buying it at random from a bargain bin. It was one of those where you buy so many and get a special deal and I needed one more movie. It ended up being better than the ones I actually wanted.

Ah ah ! It did not surprise me at all. I think that movie is way underrated.
And even if the second is not as good as the first, I find it pleasant to watch.

Sleepy Hollow I like that movie a lot, the mistery and fantasy set is great IMO. Another fantasy movie that I liked was Stardust it has some comedy into it too. I just like fantasy in general :P.

I enjoyed Stardust. The book (by Neil Gaiman) is pretty good too.

Despite being a Tim Burton fan I somehow managed to miss his version of Sleepy Hollow entirely.

I do know some movies, but could you please specify the genre, decade, etc? Unless you want to read about the 770 movies that have a 7/10 and above rating for me. xD

EDIT. Sci-fi anime:
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Paprika

Classics:
2001
Blade Runner
Metropolis

New-ish
Moon
District 9

All of those are ones that I've already seen or are already on my watch list, but I guess that means they're good recommendations. :)

I'm always disappointed how unknown Moon seems to be. It was a great movie but I hardly ever run into someone who's heard of it let alone seen it.

Well, I won't lie, that if it wasn't for the director's father, I propably would just put it on my watch list and never touch it actually. But yeah, it deserves much more praise.

Also :p
Videodrome (my fav Cronenberg movie)
Altered States
Heavy Metal (just maybe don't watch it around any kids ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
Brazil

I think Canada is a nice place to move to. If that was to be movie recommendations, as most others seem to be suggesting, then I would suggest John Wick as a really good action movie and quite underrated.

John Wick doesn't seem like the sort of movie I'd usually like enormously but the cast looks interesting and the reviews are pretty positive so I'll check it out.

A Bronx Tale is an under-appreciated older movie with an amazing soundtrack. I watched John Wick last weekend and was pleasantly surprised but that may be because I went in with low expectations. I can't think of much good sci fi that has come out recently at all.

A Bronx Tale looks good. With the good reviews and Robert De Niro's involvement I'm a little surprised I've never heard of it before.

You're now the second person to recommend John Wick so I guess I should check it out, too.

Soon we can see american remake of "El secreto de sus ojos". - it's calling "Secret in Their Eyes", with Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts. It may be good thriller.
And maybe you can see :Thursday" - it's like Tarantino movie

Lots of good recommendations there. I'm a big Star Trek fan so of course I've seen those. I keep hearing good things about Archer and The Blacklist so I think need to bump them up my "to watch" list.

I have not run across The Dwarves before but it sounds interesting.

I've seen the 2011 one which I thought was fairly mediocre, but not the 1982 one. I'll have to check it out.

There's a world of difference between the two. It's a shame that you saw the 2011 one first though, as that will take some of the surprise out of the original. The original has some of the best special effects ever and is less of a generic monster movie (like 2011 The Thing was) and more like a claustrophobic and gruesome horror movie (like Alien).

No prob :) You should enjoy Coherence then!

Can't think of any others like The Man From Earth at the moment. Maybe 12 Angry Men, in that it's a 'talking film' mainly set in one room. It's not a Sci-Fi, but it is a classic (#5 on IMDB's top 250 films).

One of my favorite films is Bergman's "The Seventh Seal", and I'd highly recommend watching it if you haven't yet.

And, if you'd like something more on the science-fiction spectrum, I read quite a few of Orson Scott Card's books back in the day, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the film adaptation of "Ender's Game" turned out. It's not bad, even though they did leave out a few bits I had been hoping for.

Permalink

I've seen a few Ingmar Bergman films and they've always fallen into that weird category where I think they're good but don't exactly enjoy watching them. The premise for The Seventh Seal definitely sounds interesting, so maybe it'll be one I can enjoy, too.

I wholeheartedly agree with the "Ender's Game" recommendation. The movie was stuck in development hell for ten years, but turned out great. Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite writers.

Equilibrium
Stalker, if you have patience for a very slow philosophical movie. Part 2 is here. Be sure to turn on captions unless you can understand Russian.
The first three Bourne movies are good too, if you haven't seen them. Bourne Legacy was terrible.
If you're interested in TV series as well, there's always Babylon 5, though the DVD version was messed up due to WB's carelessness (a push for widescreen regardless of it messing up the CGI sections, which are not always within sync or properly sized; if you can find a VHS rip, you'll probably be better off).

I enjoyed Equilibrium and Babylon 5 would be in strong contention for my favorite TV series (only ever saw it on DVD with the sometimes screwy CG shots, though).

I've not heard of Stalker. It sounds interesting and I don't mind a slower pace so I'll check it out.

:D Very, very good series, wonderful interweaving of so many neat plots and characters.

Some trivia about the movie: Stalker is based on the book Roadside Picnic, which is also fantastic. Loosely based; the first version was closer to the source, but there was an accident which destroyed the film.
Both it and the book are the inspiration for the also-fantastic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.
The making of the movie ending up killing some cast, crew, and the famous director Andrei Tarkovsky. Don't film on the grounds of a chemical plant, I guess. :S

I've seen Primer and Moon and heard good things about Predestination. I haven't heard of the other two or did but forgot so I'll definitely have to check them out. Snowpiercer in particular sounds interesting being a Korean production but with so many American/British actors.
