The Kickstarter campaign for Eiyuden Chronicles - Hundred Heroes has ended but feel free to check out this amazing game.

The campaign has done remarkably well for such a niche kind of game even for the jrpg genre and I hope you'll check it when it comes out!

[Ended]Obligatory thank you for reading GA

Bumps are appreciated aswell ^^

I've heard a lot about Suikoden, but never got to play it. I'm very curious how this'll turn out :)

Thank you for reading, I hope you'll check the new game when it comes out, and you may still find suikoden on the net...I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention emulation

The character story and struggles was very impactful and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story :)

Yes! I backed this as well. Pretty insane how much backer support this one received.

Was going to bump since I love Suikoden and have been following this on kickstarter. I see you have me blacklisted. Thanks I appreciate it.

I don't remember why I did, but a possibility was that I was hiding public GAs and yours was a series of games that weren't my type so I took the lazy option, if you still would like to, please feel free to enter and I apologize for any frustration caused :)

Thank you for the response. I was wondering what the reason was for the blacklist more than anything. If you want to keep me blacklisted its ok. I can understand a lot of my giveaways are lower tier games with occasional better quality games.

Anyway the pledged amount is over 4 million now. Its refreshing to see they are making this Suikoden inspired game. I only played the first 2 in the series and loved both of them. It is too bad all of the Suikoden series is not available on steam.

Nah, thanks for calling it to my attention. I've been meaning to clear up my blacklist as there was a period I did it a bit more liberally than I think was decent (as the guess I gave you). I'd be happy if my GA is something you are interested in, if not, perhaps next time :)

The first 2 were the most impactful in terms of story, it's a promising thing that the same scriptwriter will be doing the plot for this new one, I still keep the first 2 in rom form myself :)

I hope we'll see each other around, here or in the discord ^^

I was going to buy the Suikoden games back when the PSP versions released (as unlike the PS1 originals the PSP releases had true widescreen support), but unfortunately the collection never got released outside Japan. :(

This looks good minus the depth of field effect (hate when pixel art games use it).

I am unsure how it will turn out as the first impression from the trailer alone looked "different" to say the least, but the description for the combat mechanic related to that has me very intrigued:

"In Eiyuden Chronicle, characters will automatically be placed in formations that match each battlefield's elevation differences, obstacles, and other unique features. So while this is a turn-based RPG, the dev team is striving for battles that really pull you into the scene.

It's not just skin deep, either:

Snipers and mages can attack from vantage points.
Characters can hide behind cover to protect themselves and support comrades
Mages can use magic to burn away the grass, or sunder the land and affect topography with earthquakes. Terrain matters in this game and can be used to gain the upper hand."

I had suiko homebrewed in my psp, than my dog ate it :( Now I have s1-s2 in rom form on PC for preservation purposes, perhaps if this campaign and game is a sucess, they will remake/port the original aswell ^^

Looks cool.

I've never played any Suikoden game. Do they still hold up well today, and if so, where would you recommend someone start?

Start with the 1st one and then move onto 2. From 3 onward it looks like they went with 3d type models and I don't know if it holds the same charm as the 2d art style. Every game in the series could be great games but I can personally vouch for the first 2.

I couldn't get into s3 due to the 3d, but I'd personally start with s2 (due to aging), even back then, I played s2 first and had a bit of trouble finishing s1 which felt older and less polished(?) not sure anymore why but I do remember s2 was a better experience.

You are right S2 is more polished and the better game. Once you go from 1 to 2 you can appreciate more of the polish in the 2nd game. I still think 1 is definitely worthy of playing however when I played it was like 19 years ago lol. I have watched some youtube videos of it though for the memories.

You have a point aswell, I just didn't want anyone willing to try Suikoden to be daunted by the age of the game, and out of the 2, figured Suikoden 2 would be an easier entry.

Thankfully, between 1 and 2, it's not a problem to play the 2nd and than the 1st, seeing characters you know appear again is such a nice feeling :)

You can have up to 6 party members and 108 playable characters. Its also cool seeing your castle/camp area expand with your recruited heroes offering their services to your army.

That sounds like an overwhelming amount of characters. If you can only field 6 of them, are the other 100+ just hanging out idly?

Pretty much. Some have roles in your camp or castle. I think they also had to the number of troops you can field in these full scale mini game type wars. Also some of the characters do combined moves with each other if you have the right combination.

While I never played them (do own a music CD though, which is excellent), the general consensus seems to be that Suikoden 2 is the best game in the series, followed by the first one.

Love Suikoden! Must have spent 100+ hours on 2 and 3, grinding and collecting the 108 stars. The base building, tactics and bonus stats from characters were well integrated with the RPG.

Because of this campaign, I had the opportunity to think back to all the great moments of the story and there were indeed many. The goals they set seem to go above and beyond what suikoden had so I am beyond hyped ^^ glad to see a fellow fan!

Loved Suikoden 1 & 2 when I was a kid. Played 3 and 4 but never got to finished them. 2 is the best among them and this new game looks cool.

Agreed, s2 was the best out of them all in my view aswell, though S5 redeemed the series by being better than 3/4 and I could see the shadow of s1/s2 in it....you should try it if you have the chance ^^

It was quite sad for me that my PS2 got busted while I was playing Suikoden V.

The campaign surprisingly raised so much more than was asked. Didn't know there were that many Suikoden fans xD

I am happy that visually they are keeping it closer to Suikoden 1/2 rather than 3/4/5

This, 100%. Suikoden 4-5 visually was better but I liked S1-2 much better visually. I was very happy that this revived a community silent for the last decade+, drop by the discord if you haven't yet, we'll all keep each other company throughout the next 2.5 years xD

We will be back in 2.5 years when they release ^^ and perhaps if the "companion game" is worth the mention :)

Thank you for the bump fellow appreciator, hope you'll pop in the discord, now that the KS ended we just mile around waiting for any update and talk about old times (suikoden) or hype EC xD
