My trusty beloved Logitech G700 that I bought in 2013 is on its last legs. The left and right buttons don't register as well at times, and it's a bit of a pain when dragging and dropping and also in some games. This is the best mouse I have ever owned: it has 13 fully programmable and easy to reach buttons, 5 different user profiles, seamless dpi settings that are changable on the fly, wired and wireless operation with rechargable user replaceable Enerloop battery and a dual mode scroll wheel that can be changed from click-to-click to free spin hyperfast scroll. This is the awesome wheel that Logitech first introduced with the MX Revolution in 2007 which I had prior to this model and I simply cannot live without now. Seriously, there's no going back after using this amazing wheel. I would buy the G700 again in a heartbeat, the only problem is it has since been discontinued and Amazon now carries it for a cool 350 bucks. As much as I love this mouse, my readiness (and wallet) has limits.

My problem is I don't know how I should replace the G700. An obvious choice would probably be Logitech's current top of the line productivity mouse, the MX Master 2S. This mouse has the same ergonomic shape as the G700 and also has that awesome dual mode wheel, but it has less buttons than the latter. I've come to really like my multitude of buttons, which are not only great for gaming but also for productivity tasks like photo and video editing. So I'm not sure if I would be happy with the MX Master.

On the other hand, there are the Logitech G Series mice. Most of these seem to have lots of programmable buttons, but I don't think they have that amazing wheel I talked about earlier. (Or do they? Does anybody know for sure? The website doesn't really say). They also don't seem to have that ergonomic shape I am so fond of that started with the MX Revolution. I don't know why Logitech doesn't make them anymore like they used to and combine the features I want, just like in the G700.

Do you have any advice on what mouse I should get? I would like a wireless mouse if possible with a lot of programmable buttons, an ergonomic shape that fits the hand (it does not need to be ambidextrous, right hand is fine) and that dual mode scroll wheel (or someting of equivalence) that I keep going on about. GIBAWAYBonus points if it looks halfway sensible and doesn't scream PROGAMERRGB2DAMAX!!!1! in its design. I've only used Logitech mice since 1997 (each one has lasted me years), but I am willing to switch for the right mouse.

UPDATE
I have made my choice: After much consideration I decided to go for the Logitech G502 Hero. I had to sacrifice the wireless capability, but apart from that the mouse has everything I want (remember the wheel?) and although I have yet to properly test it in games, I like how it feels and functions in Windows. Some people suggested I fix the switches in my G700 and I might just do that. For now it's relegated to office duty and has replaced my generic no name piece of crap mouse there, so that's cool. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with their comments, I have read every one, even if I didn't reply to them all. Also, here's a fun list!

Logitech G502 has most things you are after (including the wheel) but is only wired. You can turn off the RGB and it looks okay. Look at MX Master as well, don't know about the scroll wheel on that one though.

For the last 6 years I've been using ASUS ROG GX850 which was a free bonus for my laptop. It was nice to get my first real gaming mouse for free, but in retrospective it's not a thing I would recommend actually buying for the price it's available.

I was just choosing a new mouse last week and the one I picked is Logitech G403 PRODIGY. So far I'm ABSOLUTELY in love with it, but since it's a new buy I can't say for sure how will I feel about it after several years of use. It does have reprogrammable buttons, but it's only the usual 6 (left, right, middle, DPI and two side buttons), so I only changed the action for the two side-buttons I actually never used in the previous mouse which didn't have that option. Either way, it's most likely not a right mouse for you.

It's the first time I actually heard about the dual mode scroll wheel and had to google out some video of it. My new mouse surely doesn't have that, but I see that it's still a thing at least in Logitech G500 and G502.

One advice I could give you is that I really recommend the very in-depth mouse video reviews done by "Rocket Jump Ninja". He has a YT channel with the reviews and a website with various lists like top 40 mice, best mice for various hand sizes, etc. These things were extremely helpful for finding a mouse which would be best suited for my needs! :)

Yeah, the dual mode scrolling function is quite a big deal for me, was a complete life changer. I can't recommend that feature enough. Cheers for the Youtube channel mention!

If you really love your mouse, you can take it apart and clean it out a bit.
Highly likely that some junk got between some parts that you can easily fix with a toothpick or something similar

Yeah, I've taken it apart and cleaned it several times already and tried some simple fixes involving tape, but they weren't enough. A couple of users earlier mentioned some other methods where you take apart the switch box itself and fix the copper contacts, so I might look into that next, although it does look to be quite a bit of effort.

ah, a bit of soldering never hurt - esp when you are going to bin the thing otherwise.
you can find a solder iron/kit for $10 online with a bunch of extra's

Since that mouse costs a lot of money, it might well be worth trying. You'll have nothing to lose, but potentially plenty to gain. =)

Also, a bit cheaper here than Amazon: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104377
But obviously, still a lot of money.

This mouse is VERY popular, but your mileage may vary.

:D

I use a Logitech G400s, wired. I love it. But unfortunately I've had it for years and as a result, have not had to do any mouse shopping during that time. So I can't help you... except to bump, and say thanks for the giveaway! I didn't enter but that game looks pretty cool.

i've been using a G403 for the last two years and it's doing ok. not bad, not great. before that i used that sweet MX518 for more than 10 years and it was awesome.
my sister has a G900 and while it's pretty nice it's also pretty expensive.

the recent MX518 refresh seems really cool but it's pretty hard to get one.

They're as big as they should be imo and in comparison to the Razer Naga, button rows are placed under different angle which makes them super intuitive. I've seen identical layout on Logitech G600.

I use first two rows for regular binds in "simple" games (for things like changing camera view, managing inventory, other game-specific and unusual activities) and the other 2 rows for managing my music player and microphone.

In heavy action RTS/MOBA games i use all of these buttons with maybe 1 button for pausing and unpausing music.

During the usual desktop usage I use profile that designates first 2 rows for file/web browser, "minimize all" and switching focus to specific apps i regularly use. Other 2 rows for music.

Generally it took me about 1 and a half of the Dota match (about 1.5h) to remember and get used to all of my binds.

I would consider the MX Master only if you can live with a few buttons less. But only then as it seems important to you.
Flip a coin. In the last second you might wish for one or the other. It can help to decide.

Bump ;). Not sure about current mouses, but I used old Logitech MX518 from years (2 generations). Now there are 3rd generation (recently anounced) of this mouse and very likely I would buy it (but I prefer previous look) :)

I have used G703 and then move to MX Master 2s for few months now.

First off, MX Master 2s have a noticeable delay (cause it's bluetooth) which annoyed me a lot.
Playing CS:GO or any fps / battle royale game is a nightmare on bluetooth mouse.

Ergonomic wise, after get used to it, it is really great. Sometimes I just grab my mouse harder to feel better.

For production, side mouse wheel is pretty useful, but Gusture button is a little bit too hard to use. I only use it less than 50 times since I've been using the mouse.

Unless you have balls to go for G903, I think MX Master 2s is the clear winner (if you isn't hardcore fps gamer).

Side note: SteelSeries mouses are shit but their plastic feels pretty great.

Bømp!

And, as have been mentioned, you should try to get some quality micro-switches and get it repaired. I did it years ago when my old, trusted Logitech mouse wouldn't click properly anymore. If you don't have the tools or skills to re-solder the switches, maybe there's an electronics club or campus nearby? You don't have much to lose by trying.
