The odd thing is, they say its a beta (on august 14th!). Yet I can farm cards... I cant remember that happening to any beta game I owned.
This has happened on a number of occasions and just means they've issued copies of the full game rather than using an actual beta.You don't see the card drops more often, especially after recent changes as games at this stage typically won't have cards in place.

No, they actually did both, as previous owners have received both the full game as well as the beta version.

Today I noticed I was eligible for card drops for Shadows: Awakenings. I am sure I never bought it so I did some digging:

We are happy to announce that we have now added the exclusive Shadows: Awakening Steam beta to the accounts of all owners of the original Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms.
Over the course of the evening today, owners of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms will see the Shadows: Awakening beta added to their Steam libraries. The exclusive beta (also open to all Shadows: Awakening pre-order customers on Steam) gives players the chance to charge into the adventure before the official release in late summer 2018.
Additionally, you can leave your feedback in the connected Shadows: Awakening beta community hub on Steam.

So maybe its the full game? I asked the devs on the Steam forum and am waiting for a reply.
I'm also pretty sure I couldnt farm the cards a few days ago.
UPDATE: Also from the store page: "Additionally, owners of the original Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms will no doubt remember that they were promised ‘Book 2’ free of charge. Kalypso Media and Games Farm are happy to confirm that they will uphold their promise to reward these long-time fans – with all owners of the Steam and GOG versions of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms eligible to receive Shadows: Awakening as an update to their existing game, completely free of charge."
I cant remember shit but I'm happy with the free game ;)
