I gave away my PS1 copies of Suikoden 2 and Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VIII and IX since they collected dust.

Suikoden 2 is one of my all time favorites. I love the other ones as well. 5 was a bit meh to me though.

I only played 7-10 plus 12 as well on FF. So i have less to go on there. I really liked 10 and 8.

If i had to choose, Suikoden all the way.

I think we can all agree that the later Suikodens and FF games sucked. At least Suikoden was given the axe before it got to the level FF is at now.

Suikoden V wasn't that bad imo, but III and IV sucked.

At first I was surprised and disliked somewhat Suikoden V especially because of the camera.
After some playtime it became one of my favorites, and is 2nd only to Suikoden II.

Final Fantasy.

Both are good choices.. but for me I am a little bias in some ways. Final Fantasy. Great series ( well, great till 12 and on. I never played 11 so I can not say anything about it. But 12 was bad for a FF game. 13 was just terrible even if you took out the FF part. The only thing it has going for it is GFX. )

I'm an FF-lover. 2,6,7,9,10 and 12 were great. I'm willing to give 8 another go when it eventually gets released on Steam.

I only played Suikoden Tierkreis on DS but it was super awesome, I even got me the undub version. As for FF I played 8, 10, 10-2, 12, 13 & 13-2 and are now playing 7 on Steam. It's all great and I would never go so far to say one is better than the other.

Yeah the undub is the way to go with Tierkreis. The main protagonist's V.O is so hilariously bad (he sounds like he's on speed).

Even though 3 and 4 weren't so great and i have yet to play 5 >_<

You can't really choose between the two. It is more of which one you grew up with which determines the "betterness" of the two in personal level.
I'm a lucky one in a sense that I grew up with both close to heart as they came out in the prime time when everything was new to me in games like these. Both had interesting battle systems and great minigames. Have yet to find equal in terms of minigames in today's games. FF's card battles very superb and interesting. War battles in Suikoden added great deal of immersion to the game. Ah the memories sugarcoat these games so deeply.

I never played Suikoden but Final Fantasy V, IX, and XII are amazing. Final Fantasy besides those games in my opinion is a mediocre franchise.
Though the game does seem impressive. Do all 100 characters have their own distinct personalities or is it just a few?

Suikoden II is one of my fav games but Suikoden IV (imo) felt more like a chore to play (that's putting it nicely. Honestly I thought it was garbage). As far as Final Fantasy, VI is an amazing game. But if I had a gun to my head and forced to choose, I would choose Suikoden. Most Final Fantasy games (again imo) are overrated. Having said all of that, the correct answer is Shin Megami Tensei :b

Different strokes for different folks! Mario and Sonic are both platformers, but are quite different in their own ways as are Suikoden and Final Fantasy despite both being RPGs.

There are many key differences between the two series that could make people lean either way. The sheer amount of playable characters in Suikoden trumps Final Fantasy by a long shot as there are 108 to recruit and most are playable. The Suikoden series aren't sequels, but they are in the same world, although typically a different country or continent and have reoccurring characters, not just namesakes like Cid, Biggs, Wedge in Final Fantasy. I'd have to say Final Fantasy has more in depth characters due to the sheer number in Suikoden and the Final Fantasy storylines are probably better too, but that's open to opinion. That's just scratching the surface, but should give you an idea as to which you'd prefer. I see Final Fantasy for those who are more story driven while Suikoden is for the collectors/grinders.

I've thoroughly enjoyed both series and will admit that the last few games from both have sucked quite a bit!
