Hi there,

is anyone well informed about Steam bans? Because a few weeks ago, I activated a US-version of Wolfenstein: The New Order on my German Steam account (As you may know, swastikas are banned in Germany and thus, the uncut version is prohbited here). Since I am a huge enemy of censorship, I easily took the risk but read nothing about bans so far (I have to add that I already had Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein 3D uncut in my account at that point).

Other than that, I have done nothing regarding VPN activations on my account. I just activate a lot of gifts and keys, but also buy in the Steam store on a regular basis.

This just came to my mind ever since I've a few recent postings about account bans. And since I don't feel like losing 650+ games, I'd like to know whether I'm needed get more catious or not.

Thanks in advance!

Nowdays they don't really do whole account bans, ie. you will be able to play existing games, but not use community nor buy/add new games.

They don't actively ban those who use VPN to activate games. Only those who buy (even thought another account) using VPN / etc on Steam's own store.

Steam mostly only banns account used in criminal activity like the Russian Key Laundering thing. Also sometimes, foolish people have no-steam installed at launch a game through stream. Those people are only banned for stealing from valve. . .Also credit card Fraud is a big one too. VPNs hmmm not so much.

Only Thing I've heard from VPN is Steam removing games, from time to time.

Accounts are no longer banned...they are simply locked.

No, you can still use your games but you won't be able to buy stuff or use anything at all.

This is exactly why I read posts that have (apparently) nothing at all to do with me or anything I know about. The occasional gem of information makes it worth the effort.

You can't get banned because what you did, activating a non-German gift, isn't against the rules of Steam. You can still request to Steam support to switch your game to the German version, in case you are interested... If you bought the game using a trick to use the US Steam store, then you should be worried though. If you bought the game from a US store using a fake USA address, that's a different kind of problem.
