So I'd like to think I'm not that old, but at 37 I'm sure I'm well above the average user age here at SG. What I'm wondering is how you all squeeze in time to game? With 3 kids 6 or under in the house, it feels like I'm always at sports, or a Doctor's appointment, or of course work. My 360 hasn't been used for a game in well over a year, and the last time I played anything on steam was mid March. I'm taking next week off, and I'm stoked that I'll finally be able to catch up on some games, but really it's kind of depressing that I have to take a week off just so I can enjoy my hobby. Am I alone in this?

You're not. I do "big" games (the ones requiring tens of hours to complete) when I'm on sick leave or on vacation.

I should marry rich and quit work. That would probably help.

Well if you find someone rich, and they have an equally rich sister, hook me up. Bonus points if she's a gamer.

I am denintely in the older gamer category, but still unattached so I get to try and squeeze in gaming a little easier than most =).

You're still young by my standards. Most of the people in my gaming clan are around your age, and they also have jobs, family, chores, and sometimes school. It's all part of being in that age group.

I've tried, unfortunately I work nights, and so anytime I'm awake and at home, so aren't the kids. A part of the problem is my own fault though, I have my pc setup on the 42" flatscreen in my living room, so I constantly have to share.

Ninja Edit For a while I was REALLY into a game called Galaxy Online 2, and I ran that in the background on macro's, So I do understand what you are saying, I just cant devote more than 10 minutes real playtime a day to anything right now.

All I can say is that it usually gets better as the kids get older. I have two kids that are now 13 and 16. They are a handful but they've both grown up around my love of all things gaming-related and are of course themselves into games. My son and I now play Counter-Strike: GO together and he finds my stories of "how Counter-Strike used to be" fascinating.

I know 10 years seems like a long time now, but honestly with kids the time will fly by and before long you'll be wishing they were 6 again.

Maybe you aren't ashamed of it, but it doesn't make it any more ok unless there's anything that prevents you from studying or working.

And maybe there is and you just were a dick to him for something out of his control. I can't work and I mention this on occasion. If you'd said that to me out of the blue like that, I'd have thought you were being a complete twat. You have no idea what the guy's personal situation is. For all you know, maybe they've worked at the same job since they were 16 and just got laid off and are relaxing a little while they look for a new job. Maybe they can't get a new job due to a shitty economy, no matter how well qualified they are. Maybe they broke their spine and can't do jack but game. Whatever the reason, to just suddenly blurt out with an "Oh, you should be ashamed of yourself" attitude is an absolute dick move.

"unless there's anything that prevents you from studying or working." And initially I just said it's not something to be proud, which doesn't necessarily equals to something to be ashamed of.

I have 27 years and i loved NES platform and i was amazed with games that were released in year i did born alike, Balloon Fight, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Donkey Kong. Anyway i cant forget the epic moments that was supplied from games like ninja gaiden 2 or super c from NES as well. I also played cool games on Gamer Gear, Game Boy, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast and my last console was PS2 then i became only PC gamer.
It's easier to remember cool moments in old games, meanwhile the moments from the new triple A games of this era are easily to forgot.

My eldest son is a student games design atm and his younger brother is writing a lot for a few big game websites in our country. Probably when I didn't buy them lots of games, consoles and computers they would maybe became very different people.
I love games :)

Back when I played EverQuest there were three generations of a family in the one guild I was in, 19, 54, and 70ish, also grouped with a 60 year old, those two were definitely the oldest I've seen gaming that I've actually played with online

Gotta give you respect for being able to take care of all 3 kids! I'm still young (20) but I actually look forward to growing up and settling down. I'm honestly more attracted to having kids and responsibility than video games. (I know I'm weird)
