Or will it be only for Origin?

Wondering before buying (or not) the collection.

It has nothing to do with EA, so pay no attention to the anti-EA morons. Valve does not allow third-party in-game DLC transactions, they want all transactions to go thru Steam. Thus why you'll probably have to wait until a GotY-like edition.

Source for that? I really hope it's true, so every time someone complains about EA not releasing a new game on Steam, I can go, "lol, nope! Steam's being a dick, not EA!"

Oh, I think I get it. It looks like EA wants to deliver patches and DLC and whatnot through a third party client, but Steam doesn't allow that because it means they can't take a cut through those sales. Since EA makes almost as much on DLC as the actual game, they don't want steam to take a cut from that, too, and Steam's ToS doesn't allow for their workaround.

that was the reason for certain titles such as dragon age 2, many other ea games like battlefield 3 don't have any in game transactions and still aren't on steam. It is just EA wanting a cut of the market, I don't blame them as business is business but it still sucks regardless.

I understand why valve does that, mainly to stop companies using the steam platform as free advertising and still keep all of the revenue, especially in the case of the free to play model EA is implementing in the future. They could release a f2p title in the store and then run all of the microtransactions directly through EA meaning valve would not see a cent.

See the link above. It can be interpreted as two ways. The first is that EA doesn't like Steam's policy since it has affected its other games directly and thus simply doesn't want its flagship product on Steam until that term is changed or removed. The other possibility is that Steam's policy does actually affect the way EA distributes BF3's DLC, specifically how it deals with the "Premium" membership. Premium membership grants you EARLY access to the DLC...I'm not sure if Steam supports that - it would mean "releasing" the DLC, but not actually putting it up for sale on the store.

i preordered xcom and got the soldier pack dlc early before it was even available to purchase on the steam store so it definetely isnt the 2nd point.

And EA likes there money and are trying to grow a community on Origin and the only was they can do that is by having exclusives that force people to move over to Origin

Nope. It will be Origin only... just like every new big EA release. They try people to use origin. I start origin through steam. lol

It was before the Origin was released...

Classic Crysis 2 was released on Steam before Origin. I think they released Maximum Edition of on Steam just because they already had Crysis 2 on Steam...

It is published by EA, but Crytek is not owned by EA. They are only using the EA Partners program as far as I know, so it could very well be released on Steam at some point I guess.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No... They are publishers, so no.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you care to explain why? It has nothing to do with them being the publisher.
EA's published games (and by that, I mean games published by EA outside or the EA Partners program) are no longer sold on Steam because EA doesn't want to comply with the new Steam Subscriber Agreement and the rule regarding the sale of DLC on Steam. On top of that, most, if not all of them, are now tied to Origin.
However, the developers of games published by the EA Partners program are completely independent of EA and can do whatever pleases them, including selling their games on Steam, or even making a Steamworks version of the game, so I don't see any reason for Crysis 3 no being on Steam, unless I'm not aware of some recent changes in the way the EA Partners program works.

money

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yes and no.
Game on Origin = LOTSA MONEY
Game on Steam = LOTSA MONEY + (LOTSA MONEY - Steam %'s)
So YES; but... NO if you like the game, and it's only available on Origin; you'll buy it on Origin... the fact that its not on Steam won't stop you from owning it.
AND when you go to Origin buy this game, maybe you will like their platform (unlikelly, it sucks) and buy more games there, instead of Steam.... (again unlikelly, Origin software sucks, but they get credit for trying)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Probably not, seeing as BF3 never came to Steam, the other EA games probably won't. I also remember read somewhere that EA was done with Steam.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well every preorder I've seen has been origin exclusive. Crysis 2 was pulled off steam because of DLC, was brought back when the dlc came included in the maximum edition, but Crysis 3 will have dlc of its own. Ergo no steam, until at least the goty edition or equivalent comes out.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Only EA can answer that question. They don't announce their plans regarding adding their games to Steam.

"According to EA, the game's reappearance on Steam was due to changes made to the Maximum Edition by developer Crytek.
"Changes made by Crytek to Crysis 2: Maximum Edition have brought the game in compliance with Steam's terms of service," an EA spokesperson said in a statement to GameSpot.
When asked whether EA plans to reinstate some of its other missing titles to Steam, the publisher replied: "We have nothing to announce at this time."

Also wouldn't trust anything EA says regarding their future plans anyway (refer to Steam sales cheapen intellectual property followed by a major Origin sale).

Maybe, no one can know but I think it will take some time or probably will never happen, else they would already put it as preorder on Steam. But it can also be possible that the Steam version would also need Origin.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If it will appear, then probably only Crysis3 Maximum/All-DLC Edition, since EA won't bother with Steam-DLC, and Valve have "we need more money, must have separate DLCs in shop even if we'll be only one who will allow buying them outside of game" policy.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think you understood their DLC dispute. Spoiler: EA are the assholes.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, in C2s case, Crytek had the third-party deal (it's an EA Partners game) so EA weren't being 'the assholes' in that story.

Valve's policy is simply to make sure F2P games don't leave them in the lurch. It's unfortunately that they didn't limit it to just F2P, but hey, money is money.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Was there anything else then Valve saying "where's DLC to put in Steam Store?" and EA saying "there won't be any, people can buy it in in-game store" and Valve saying "GTFO, we want DLC money", for which EA was "that's our plan of making sales on Origin anyway, and thanks to that, it's Valve who looks like a bad guy who doesn't want players play EA games"?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, Valve wants the DLC to be sold via Steam, and EA wants it to be sold via EA. Why couldn't each one sell the DLC? If you bought the game through EA/Origin, you can buy the DLC the same way/through the game itself; if you bought the game through Steam, why can't you buy the DLC aswell? Its not like they will overcharge you either way.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And why Valve MUST have DLCs too, when you can buy them in in-game shop? Hell, not once of twice not-steamworks games won't work with steam-dlc or around (like Tropico3, I bought both game and addon in box, and when I received T3 from bundle, I can't add addon to steam, so I'd have to pay for it again...).

Both sides are assholes here, we can only argue who is a bigger one...
