/go/user/ redirection with custom url nicks

Hello,

for some reason I can't use the site's /go/user/ redirection when the user I'm looking for has set up a custom url for his steam profile.

Works: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/user/76561197960323531
Does not work: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/user/steamgamesales

Am I doing something wrong or are there any technical limitations with custom urls?

Custom user isn't constant which steamid is as such tracking those would be extra layer of complexity and wouldn't guarantee always to find right user.

You need the steamID. If you don't know it, an easy way to find it out is adding "/?xml=1" at the end of the Steam's profile url.
E.g.: http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/steamgamesales/?xml=1
