Civilization 5 - Good?

You should try the demo, it's limited to a 100 turns per game on a small map but it is enough to see how it works.

I loved all parts of civ, but never played EE1

Civilization II and IV are better. Alpha Centauri is the best "Civilization". In my opinion obviously. : )

Yes it is good and on sale. So why not?

Get Civ4 complete instead, it's much better.

Simply the best. Go and buy it.

if you do buy Civ5 be sure to get the Gods and Kings set with it, completely changes the game.

I didn't like it as much as other Civilisation games because they changed it so that you can't stack units on a tile any more, which made having a large army difficult as you had to spend a lot of time moving them around in the right order.

Civ5 is a very good game but you must complete the tutorial before starting anything. Many people gave up as they said they didn't know how to play. Once you learn it it's great!

Be careful, I lost almost 2 days when I installed it.

I just got it from gamers gate, GOTY edition for £7.50, the guys I work with have said be careful because I will lose sleep to this game.. Therefore, I am looking forward to it

So yes, if you like turn-based in-depth strategies which provide shitload of content, you should get CivV.

In my opinion: Age of Empires > Civ V > Empire Earth (and yes I've played them all)

Seriously, Civ V is way better than EE, and as everyone says, it is very addictive once you are on playing it.

Civ 4 is better but much harder. Civ 5 is more friendly for newcomers in the series.

I prefer Civ V, they fixed everything that was bothersome in civ IV

If you're interested in turn based strategy, then YES

Its a good game but the mp is not good enough, its too simple and easy and you are not able to play custom maps :/
