July on Steam is going to be hot, and I'm not talking about any summer sale. No, it's time to play the newly released Beach Bounce!

Beach Bounce is the name of the beach resort you visit in this new visual novel, a name clearly not even remotely inspired by the female bosoms you'll be seeing in-game. I just learned about this game myself while discussing the success of the Sakura games, and no doubt this game will attract many customers as well.

Which brings me to a poll question. The number of adult themed games on Steam is gradually increasing, a trend that doesn't show any sign of stopping at this point. Would you like to see a greater variety of adult themed games? Or should that sort of thing be kept off of Steam, to be purchased through other distributors?

Porn should stay as a video, not a video game.

Volvo need to stop censoring these games...it's all well and good to not want a game on Stoma if it goes against Lord GabeN's personal beliefs, but to let a game on there and then censor it? That's bullshit, that's like telling your crazy-funny friend he can come to your wedding but he's not allowed to be crazy-funny...or like when Lightning McQueen took Mater with him to the big international race and basically told him not to be so Matery...

Funny you should mention that...I have very vivid memories of when I was younger and we still had more than one video rental store in town, one of the lower-profile chains (Showstopper I think) had their porn out in the open...the one I most clearly remember seeing on the shelf was Edward Penishands...

Actually, Steam is forced to censer it do to the US and UK being prudes when it comes to sexual content.

Is that why porn from the US and UK is absolutely pitiful in it's sexual content?

Im not sure if thats sarcasm, but just because something can be made and sold, doesnt mean that either system isnt prudish. Just look at the US day time television where a nipple slip is the end times while rape, torture and murder are all just another lovely day in paradise.

Depictions of nudity and sex are very much seen as shameful in the US and UK.

Again, must be why porn from those places is so crap and contains next to no sexual content or nudity...

As for prudishness, kinda seems to me that if there weren't the market for something, then that something wouldn't get made in the amounts that some things do, whether that something crossed any prudish boundaries or not

I don't care much about these games, but I think they should be available, like any other game.
I mean, why make a fuss because of some girls in bikinis? What is this, the 50s?

Simple fact in business - if people are willing to pay for it, then there will be people trying to sell it.

For everyone complaining about stuff like this or other 'junk' titles getting on Steam?
Its our own fault as consumers, there are tons of people buying it making it profitable to sell these junk titles.

As for the people who claim this is a chicken and egg situation.
I tell you this: "Stop feeding the chicken, it'll die and stop laying eggs."

In that order? Or would it stop laying first and THEN die? :P

Seriously though, I've yet to play any of the more "outrageous" titles like Sakura Spirits/Angels etc, but the couple of VNs I have played so far have been quite engaging...especially Go Go Nippon, that one's actually kinda educational...that being said, I'd definitely try to avoid getting anything too close to hentai, it actually turns me off with the extremes it can go to

1 - While games can be art, they're also business. And if there is one thing in the world that sells, it is sex. The 'stigma' is not as global though,
2 - The stigma exists because of religious backgrounds.
3 - This is true, I had hoped that Valve show some backbone in this and the curation of broken games. They want to have it both ways, they want to avoid being called on censorship and thus allow everything, but in doing so they neglect to keep out the outright trash. Then on the other hand they keep out certain titles as they are afraid that it would negatively impact the 'reputation' of Steam. (My guess is that a seperate 18+ catagory will do Valve less harm than the Early Access one does at the moment.)
4 - Rule 34
5 - You're underestimating the willingness of people to pay for stuff, even if it is readily available for free.
6 - It'd be nice if they rose beyond the immature teen reaction and actually took it a bit more seriously, opening up the market proper.

  1. Yes
  2. Sadly, yes
  3. That WOULD be nice...
  4. No....unless you count Robert Yang's works
  5. Free you say? I must go investigate this NSFW travesty!
  6. Amen to that...though I do think that the 'tease' aspect (such as that on the morning of the second day in Go Go Nippon!) is far better than the outright nipples-and-all aspect that probably every other 'adult' game of it's kind peddles in

I would like to see an increase in the number of adult themed games on Steam. But only tasteful ones that happen to match my personal preferences, otherwise they are simply disgusting and bringing gaming into disrepute.

I say let adult themed games come to steam but put a block on seeing them if you below age 18 for the age you sign up with on steam. And plus steam will lose money since that would be one less audience for the people of steam to sell to and Gaben needs that money.

Sex sells - let's just be clear about this fact. But yeah, as a red-blooded, American woman, I like my R and well also X-rated stuff, be that games, movies, books, websites, etc... Never let it be said that only guys like this stuff cause gals like it equally. Of course there are those that don't and that's cool by me - just mark it clearly so those peeps know not to buy it.

While I do like the idea of more adult-themed games on Steam, I'm not a big fan of visual novels. It would be nice if it covered a larger number of genres.

Not really. I just turned on my AC today to see if it was ready. It caught fire. Now I need to get it fixed. I am not looking forward to the heat, but it is a welcome change to the cold. Lol ok!

On the gaming side of the topic. I do not care. I can either choose to spend my money on it, or not spend my money. It is my choice and I am glad I am able to have the choice. Lol ok!

I do like me some boob physics though. Lol ok!

Lol ok! Visual Novels Lol ok! NO!

To answer your question; No. I do not want an increase in the number of adult themed games available on Steam.

To elaborate, I do not MIND an increase in the number of adult themed games available on steam, either.
I don't play these kind of games because they are usually only designed to be a "game" consisting of boobs, butts, and more boobs, with no real game element other than that. If by "adult themed games" you mean, games which CONTAINS adult content but isn't just a visual porn/hentai magazine; then I have absolutely nothing against it.

Face it, if your game is only about staring at skimpily dressed anime women for a few hours, then it's not a game, shouldn't be considered a game, and shouldn't be available on Steam; a GAMING platform.

If a game is good, I'm fine with it being available on Steam. If I don't like a game, I just ignore it and move on with my gaming, nothing more, nothing less.

No problem with adult content, but won't be interested unless there's other good content to go with it...

I wouldn't call most of those VN porn. I've only played 3 (Go Go Nippon! - Sword of Asumi & Long Live the Queen) and I'm aware those keep it in rather good taste but I would also call stuff like HuniePop rather etchi.
Rule of thumb: If it has less sex than HBO's Rome it's not porn. :D
