Actually, unlike ASF this program doesn't ask for credentials, just to log in via Steam. Can't take over the Steam account with that (unless the "log in via Steam" page is a fake one)

Still, yes, you also end up putting implicit trust in game installs. Steam hopefully provides some oversight with automatic virus scans, but they can't catch everything. The Play Store feels, to me, to be even less well-regulated than Steam; so yes, I'd also prefer a SteamGifts app released with open source.
[edit] Disclaimer: Haven't tried the app myself. Another post now mentions that it uses the usual "Log in via Steam" page -- and assuming that that isn't faked, then it's likely to be fine. But yeah... have to make that assumption first (or check your network traffic every time you log in). [/edit]

sg is a perfectly well functioning app with more features and without ads... only problem the dev abandoned it, cuz the mods were being dickwads when he asked for voluntary donations, but the app still works. I'm also working on a Flutter app, it will be open source and cross platform, but I'm planning to leave the donation link inside it.

I was not a mod back then, but if someone breaks the rules they are asked to stop doing so.
You are not allowed to ask on SG for donations for any reason. What you can do is having link to donations or Patreon as a part of your script or on info page of the project. Like it is done in ESGST or ArchiBot. Users that wants to donate will find a way to do so.
