My friend's steam account may have been hacked. How should i act?

I have a close friend living in another country, today i was going to talk with him through steam, to my surprise i could not find him in my friends list.
I went through mutual friends and found his account with a weird name and a private profile. I currently don't have his phone number and in his country it's about 3-4 AM.
I sent an e-mail and a message through facebook trying to warn him.
Should i try to contact steam support? Should i do anything else?

I do not think you can do anything much at the moment. He will have to contact support himself, if his account indeed has been hacked.

He should contact steam support as soon as possible, my girlfriend got her account hacked too and it took 7 days to steam to finally gave her the account back, so he'll need to be patient too unless he's more lucky.
