I suspect massive traffic . This deal is posted in /r/GameDeals on Reddit and from past experience, any free deal seen in that sub-reddit gets huge traffic. Not to mention the news of this deal is posted on other sites too.

Not sure what this has to do with my question. I'm simply sure that many people are going to attempt to give a free game away.

I just want to say that although I would not rank this in the greatest games of all time category, I did enjoy playing this game (a few years ago) far more than I anticipated.
