Probably not many people know about it. Why you don't like professional reviews?

I want to read a professional review before buying a game. if a game does not receive any and it is unknown like this, I do not know then if it is good and deserves. maybe it's a hidden gem but no one knows

"REVIEWS
“It’s enormously pretty [...] immediately entertaining”
Rock Paper Shotgun"

RPS's name redirects to their review.

that is not a professional review anyway. professional reviews always have a score

RPS is a professional review site for 15 years by this point

professional reviews always have a score

You must be joking, or you're years behind. This exact "I don't want to read the review, just gimme the number" attitude made many reviewer site to drop score values, because it turned out, that a 0-10 number is worthless, if people are too lazy to read up what's behind it.

I just don't get it, why the elaborate, intricate explanations about why they don't like something, and why the constant need to share those, while they contradict eachother all the time?

Guy just bought a 5-copy VR bundle with games that has no "professional reviews" either.
[Final Soccer VR] doesn't even(https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/final-soccer-vr/critic-reviews) have a single Metacritic review by anyone.
Hyper Dash has one user review and one critic, from "UploadVR".

The whole "steam reviews are not enough" thing started recently, first going to metacritic reviews, now wanting professional reviews, which means they have a number in them. Except when it's not important to have those reviews -.-

It doesn't matter, you always figure out a few way to support however you feel about a game, and preach it as the universal truth.

Your "professional site" has 946 followers on facebook, RPS has 92 000. ( ~100 times more)
85 (!) Twitter followers vs 188k. (2200 times more)
Youtube: 12 000 vs 192 000 (16 times more)

(vr-italia.org reached these in the 6 years they exist, compared to the aforementioned 15)

Your professional site is not past the hobby project phase at least as far as social network presence goes.Them slapping a number after a review doesn't add anything to its value. It's nice that they specialize to VR games, but it's madness to think that if they are capable reviewers, a site with magnitudes bigger following and double the experience isn't doing well enough to be a p. reviewer.

WIshful thinking is a nice thing, but instead of making up card castles about who is a real reviewer and who is not, what score matters or what not - how about just try saying you like a game, or you don't like a game. A lot more honest than whatever you're doing recently, trying super hard to push games as great ones, or trying to discourage random people from buying a game you haven't even played.

as a matter of time I very rarely play the games I buy. I don't want to discourage anyone from buying it. Personally I will not buy it because it is unknown to me and the opinion of those very few people who have tried it does not convince me to buy it

so if you don't play the games you buy what does the review mean anyway?

reviews are useful to understand if a game deserves or not. if a lot of people try a game and more reviews are published, it's always better

Very well said. I agree. Sometimes games just don't always get to be recognized by many and often times some games gain popularity due to influencers. It's possible this game got under people's radar. If I get my hands on it at some point and play it, I will personally review it.

I know I personally can't judge if I haven't played it, but if a game has got a lot of positive reviews it means it's still very good anyway

+1
Reviews with numerical value don't weigh the same as each other. Dont judge a game based on a numerical number shared by someone. Instead, check the pros and cons and see if it is good for you. An aspect that someone considers a con might be a pro to some people and vice versa.

+1. This is great advice. Review numbers are so variable (e.g. one person could be handing out 10s like candy because the game was serviceable but another will only give a 10 if it's the greatest game of all time to them). Pros and cons give much more depth.

Scores are literally paid by corporations. You can't trust ANY sites that actually give scores to games.

People either buy stuff or they don't. You don't need to make any excuses for either of the actions. It's your choice.

When you are seeing a product at super cheap price, you should have zero expectations.

If you can't afford it, don't call the grapes sour before tasting them. You can always refund the game if you don't like it and if your playtime has not passed the limit.

If your choice is based on opinion of others, then you are just fostering your slave mentality. Learn to make your own choices.

So you never take a risk and allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised by a game you've never heard about, that's one of the best things about indie games.

That's understandable, but if you don't mind me asking, why the fixation with "professional" reviews when many of these small games tend to go unnoticed by them?
For a title like this one having more than a dozen reviews on Steam is already a pretty good sign.

Do you check professional reviews every time you go to a coffee shop, restaurant, cafeteria,..., for every single item you buy at the supermarket?

This game is as inexpensive as a coffee/drink anywhere or any basic food you can find at the supermarket, with the difference that once you drink your beverage or eat your supermarket product, it's gone forever (no replayability, lol) while you will own this game forever.

Another good difference Droj notes below is that, contrarily to those other products, you can refund the game if you don't like it, while it's a bit difficult to ask for a refund once you had your coffee and you didn't like it.

for every single item not but there are the reviews of places on Tripadvisor. I know I could ask for a refund if I don't like it but I don't want to. however, if I played it all from start to finish and then didn't like it, I would no longer be entitled to a refund

if he played it from start to finished doesn't that mean he liked it enough to keep playing it? i mean should i demand a refund if i watched the whole film in the cinema and then claimed i didn't like it?

that is why i have time for people like you the ones who make sense and try to be positive towards games and people and i would never read professional reviews only - people can make their own mind up - like myself i do not like Star Wars so a 5 star review isn't going to make me watch them but i would never trash them , if people did like them

precisely. you got the point. many games I keep them just as collectibles and I have never played them or I do not play them immediately so I do not go to waste money to buy one completely unknown and abandoned

At the price of one dollar with the ability to refund if I don't like it, I fail to see the risk.

I finally bought it (game+OST as Lugum suggested) and I've been playing it on the Steam Deck. My non-professional review: for this price it's totally worth it, I've enjoyed it so far.
