Do you agree?
Its depressing giving a game to someone with dozens or hundreds of wins and only a handful of gifts. Made a group to limit it though.

Yeah, I agree with you partially, but I was checking the profile of the "big giveawayers" with very high levels, and for many of them over 90% of their giveaways were for groups, with each ranging between 5~15 entries. Now, I'm quite new to the website, but I really fail to see the point of some groups, where you have to create at least one giveaway a week with 30 dollars, so this little group keep exchanging giveaways between themselves. I mean, why not just buy the game you want to play?
The winner of my giveaway had way more games than I did, including all the big AAA titles, like Witcher 3, and whatnot, including winning a lot of giveaways. I honestly didn't get upset because when I made the giveaway I was really giving it away, not strings attached. Sure, it would've been cooler if whoever won it really wanted to play it, but I think that if you expect to get something in return for giving away a game, it's not really giving it away.

Well, I typically don't buy games at full price, even when it is for myself, so It's nice when someone gives away a game that isn't currently on sale.
Also, I don't really care if people play my games or not, but I enjoy giving things to people who deserve it. People who take and take and take... don't really deserve AAA stuff that I've spent lots of $$$ on. They can enter my bundle giveaways, though :3.

Yeah, it's absolutely cool. What I said wasn't directed at you or anyone else in here, it was just a vent, because sometimes on comments I see some people bitching about the most of the SG users, that they are all leeches, and when you check their giveaways it's 100% in "premium" groups with 15 members, which is totally not your case. I mean, even then it's completely fine, anyone do as they wish with the games they bhought, but it upsets me that they get on a high horse an pretend to be better than the rest, is all. If people wantend to just prevent the users that don't giveback to enter their giveaways, they can put a lvl limit, because if someone just goes to a "premium group" they are leeching just as much as someone who doesn't give back. In fact they are even worse, if those giveaways count to their lvl up.

I think the chances, that you buy one game for the group, and maybe you win more. Though I really don't get it, why should I be happy about winning random games. I mean what happens if noone makes a proper giveaway I want, instead they dodge around with shitty unbundled games? (Like Pound of Ground) - I rather buy the games I want for myself. ( Although I'm also in a similar group, but main profile is bundled games, so essentially it's a huuuge 1game for 1 game trade group, just with giveaways :D so 1/8 CV, if we even reach the 5 entry - but got so many little games otherwise I would have miss :) )

On my last giveaway I saw a guy with 183 wins and 0 games given away.
But hey, at least he said thanks.

don't really care.
But if it's only won games and NO giveaways it makes me kinda sad.

Depends on it. If someone just won one or two giveaways without giving away a game themselfs, it is just fine in my opinion. but if you won like 10 to 20 games, you could do something back.
(I've not created a giveaway yet, but I'm going to soon)

But when u are here because u have dont the money to buy games....
Comment has been collapsed.
As long as you just won one or two games it is fine in my opinion, but if you have won like 10 to 20 games, you might as well just buy a $1 tier bundle and giveaway some games from that (it's not much, but at least you then do something back for the community).

Sry dont understand.... My english is a little bit rusted....

I just don't understand why you wrote u'r. You're would have been the right choice, but I could even see how ur would be fitting. Why go through the trouble of adding in the apostrophe when you're already shortening an already shortened word?

oh ok ... hum let me think.... don't know why i wrote this.sorry

Paypal is free and really easy to set up. I didn't have an account either, but two or three weeks ago I made one without problems, so that's not really a good argument. If you are not willing to spend some time doing something back for the community, then you should not be here in my opinion. Everyone that makes giveaways or is active in discussions spends their time for this community, so if you win a couple of games, you might as well do the same thing.

But to use paypal you need bank account or credit card (and by paypal I mean all those various online sites like paypal).
I'm not sure if paypal is available world-wide?
Also, don't they have age limits?
All in all, not that easy to use paypals-sites (well, sites are easy, getting money to them can be a problem).
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, you can. Thing is, not everyone has bank accounts. And their parents might not want to do that kind of stuff.
So all they could do in those cases is selling on steam market - which AFAIK is only possible after you bought something on steam, not just activated retail keys.

Yeah, it's not like most of the notorious leechers have literally hundreds of games (sometimes even highly popular AAA titles)... I have no trouble understanding a poor financial situation; I'm a highschool student, who buys every game via paysafecard, yet somehow I'm able to give back to the community (even, if it's not that much).

Just imagine if everyone gave away more than they had won.
There'd be a gift black-hole somewhere that's sucking up gifts!

For the site to work properly, average ratio has to be <= 1. If people would give away more than they would receive, it would end up in an exponentially increasing number of giveaways that would simply collapse at some when people could no longer sustain the growth.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, poor choise of words on my account. You are correct though, to be precise, it is not exactly one as we have some number of gifts that are not delivered. But hopefully the original idea comes through. From the viewpoint of the gifting economy's health, it is good that we have "gift sinks" that limit the growth. I think some groups have tried to enforce ratio over one and I do not know a single one that has survived very long.
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed. Also, trying to enforce a ratio over one sounds crazy to me, somebody must have failed in their logical thought process if they thought that was sustainable. Groups with 1:1 are already overdoing it, since it'd require perfect balance at all times. I had to convince most of the other admins in my own group to keep ours at 70%, a decision that has kept us going good so far. Some people are extremely generous and just keep giving while others can sit back and 'leech' a bit while still contributing decently, as it should be.

If you blacklist one person, and then click the whitelist button it undos the blacklist. No dividing by zero :(

Not everyone can afford to throw away money @ random people ... and get nothing in return :)
I Dont really like the lechers either ... but i find it reasonable maintaining something like 1/3 Ratio being won/given or given/won ...
Tho everyone with 100+ wins and 0 given stuff gets instantly blacklisted :x

I hope you do not consider being one of them. You won 14 games, within 2 years... that's not much since I've seen guys having account about 7 months old with 200 games won and 0 sent.
I do not have a job, but I obviously can just buy one or 2 less coke cans ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Very likely you will! I got it twice, and most of my wins were from puzzles too! :p

When I was earning, I made more giveaways, now I am a poor student, so I just happen to win more.
I dunno. It is a complicated thing- how would you compare someone who won 1 giveaway and made 2, or won no giveaways but made 1, vs someone who won 15 giveaways and made 10? Who gave away more?
Comment has been collapsed.
I've given away about 30 games. Most of them were bundled, some were great non-indie older games, some were games that got bundled later, some were DLC.
I've won 50 games. A couple of them are AAA stuff that haven't been bundled yet.
I don't have the sort of money to do that, and if I did (through cards and steam discounts), I'd probably buy several cheaper games rather than one expensive one.
My point is, shades of grey!
Comment has been collapsed.
Eh I don't mind it so much, if the wins are absurd though and they're not giving back then regardless of income they're just being a greedy ass. Especially if there is no intention to play the games.
There are ways to give back something, sell cards, do those silly survey sites for a few extra coins to buy a cheap bundle.
I think its worse when people booster their CV by only doing giveaways for a group with just the bare minimum entering.
Its usually obvious which groups are the ones protecting from these people and which ones are the ones abusing the CV mechanics.

I am quite enjoying this discussion. Thanks everyone for your input!
While I somewhat frown upon very lopsided ratios, I hope we don't get the wrong idea. I only blacklist people who:
Oh, it's also a little disappointing when people only make region-restricted giveaways... but nothing can be done about that. Blame Gaben! D:

Oh granny such lopsided ratio you have :o
All the better to leech with darling ;)

i am kinda rude and full of anger but thats how i handle the interwbz and the ignorance and stupidty of leechers
i sign your reasons

guys you convinced me to make a giveaway!
If you want to be in my whitelist let me know!
Comment has been collapsed.
Should I make it Whitelist only or public?
Can I do both?
Comment has been collapsed.
I assume you ask "how big whitelist should be so I would always get CV". And answer is not easy, as it depends on giveaway.
You will find no trouble getting 5 joiners to GTA5 or Witcher 3 giveaway, but you might struggle to get those 5 joiners for some bundled game or even not-bundled but hardly known indie game.
As examples: made Lego Batman group giveaways that around 100 people could join. Older games (1st and 2nd) got 14 entries, newest 3rd one got 38.

What's going to happen once you reach 10? There's no more levels for you to climb to!

I offer my face of disapproval. ಠ_ಠ
PS: Go solve my puzzle (for the other giveaways).
Edit: This thread (specifically, the contents of this post) have nothing to do with Puzzleception - aside from being a shameless attempt at PR. Please don't hurt yourselves trying to find clues here, XD. (Though, if someone asks me a question, I may provide hints in the comments.)
