As the title says, what movies are must owns on Blu Ray? (Those in the poll are on my immediate wishlist) I'm waiting for the complete collection of Game of Thrones once season 8 finishes to buy that on Blu Ray.

I'm thinking of starting a little Blu Ray collection, it's fun to hoard and collect things.

This is coming from a huge nerd, but I read the Lord Of The Rings poll option and I recommend this. It's the blueray extended edition boxset and it was worth every penny )

The Lord of the Rings is a good one because of how much better the experience is when you're watching those movies on a bigger screen. You don't get the full impact of the movie when you're watching on a tiny screen. I suppose this applies to the Dark Knight trilogy too though.

OP made no mention of their screen size, something which has no direct relation to BluRay

I assumed that if you're going to buy BluRay DVDs that you're going to have a TV to play them on

The only requirement for bluray is an hdmi connection. My laptop can play bluray, I can connect a player to my 19" screen. Not everyone needs IMAX at home.

I think that Dvdbeaver is a great place to find info on DVDs and bluerays.

As to your specific question, it depends primarily on your movie taste :)

The 2 trilogies you have listed are good choices. I got Pacific Rim and the 2 Raid movies as my first blu rays

I fucking love Lord of the Rings, but in this very particular case i'd probably say, go for Mad Max, if you can go for the 3D version, even better. That movie is just one long visual orgasm.

Are two of the better Blu-Ray collections I own. Aliens to Prometheus collection comes with every Alien movie, all directors cuts, special features (which totals around 65 hours), and commentaries. (Cast&Crew and/or Director whichever was done for each particular movie). Picked it up for about $19 which is very good value since I was only ever interested in Alien and Aliens (why do 3, Resurrection, and Prometheus exist again?).

The Uncut Directors Edition of Watchmen is probably the greatest thing in Blu-Ray I own. Comes with three versions of the movie (Uncut-Director's vision on Blu-Ray, Theatrical release DVD, and Ultraviolet). Has a limited edition hardback copy (the only way you can actually get it) of the actual novel written by Alan Moore with a brand new cover and all the pages recolored in HD by the original artist himself with bonus sketches and concept art. It's got the animated short story feature "Tales of the Black Freighter" integrated into the main film between certain intervals which was never done before. It's got two commentaries from the Director and the Co-Creator of Watchmen and it even includes the entire graphic novel in limited animated motion with voice acting (which is done by one guy if I'm not mistaken even the women) and sounds.

Not sure if you care for animation (your wishlist implies no) but the collected works of Hayao Miyazaki is a fantastic film collection you might be interested in.

Going by your poll I have to go with Fury Road. Absolutely loved that movie. LOTR is a close second.
