Hello everyone, I've been looking into all of this to give away some extra keys, but I want to be sure I understand everything first. From what I've been reading, I should unlink my steam account from humble bundle, reveal the keys, and then send those thru like an email or something instead of gift keys. Is that right?

reveal the keys and put it in the creation formular

no need for unlink or sending gift links, which maybe gets your HB account suspended

Hey,
Welcome :)

  • unlink my steam account from humble bundle: yes why not
  • reveal the keys: yes
  • then send those thru like an email or something instead of gift keys : no no, when you create a giveaway choose "key" for "Type of Giveaway" then paste the key into "Key List"

When you create a new giveaway, you can select whether the giveaway will be a gift or key. If you select key, a text box will be created where you can put all the keys you want to give away. Then, when the giveaway is over you can simply click a button to confirm sending the keys, not need to send emails.

You don't need to unlink your Steam account from Huble (I think). All you need to do is reveal Steam keys instead of gift links, Humble can't track keys so they aren't going to ban or disable your account.

On Humble Bundle you have the option of revealing a key or creating a gift link to send to a friend. None of them will make the game automatically redeem on the linked Steam account, so there's no need to unlink it.

When creating giveaways you can choose to ศ™end the game as a gift (meaning a direct Steam purchase) or as a key. You'll want to reveal the key from Humble Bundle and post it there in the form. When the giveaway ends the key will be be automatically visible to the winner.

SteamGifts giveaways use keys, not Humble Bundle gift links.
And in general, using gift links is seen as not recommended because it has the danger of linking your account to the recipient on the Humble Bundle side. If the recipient's account will be flagged for some reason (reselling for example) then who knows, yours might be too.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of the keys from Humble Bundle have regional restrictions. Check the corresponding bundle threads in the Deals section to see which, or feel free to ask if you are unsure.

I always click the gift link as it will pop up a note if it has any region restrictions, You need to confirm with another button to create the gift link so there is no danger in clicking that fist button. I then cancel and click the steam key button. Its the steam key that I give away.

Yet that countries list doesn't always reflect the actual region locks that the key you receive has. Namely, people who get worldwide redeemable keys still get a huge list of countries in the gift link message.

The only problem with gift links is that IGN's minions seem to believe everyone who uses more than two a year is a trader who is trampling their 10 commandments of TOS.
Euros are fine because European consumer laws protect them from abusive TOS but anyone else risks losing their accounts if they use them "too often"

This is what I do: I open the keys in HB, just the same as I would if I would redeem them for myself, I then press the 'Redeem on Steam' button on HB, so HB's site registers that I did that. Then I do not try to redeem the key from Steams site, but I instead cut the key out and then create a GA with it.
Don't use giftcodes too much, as HB have punished/banned/suspended users for doing so in the past.
Also, if there should ever be a problem with the key (the winner cant redeem for some reason), take the hit. Do not contact HB support about it as they are rather likely to punish/ban/suspended you when you explain the issue.

I have never unlinked my steam account or anything like that, just done what I wrote here.

The issue is that HB considers SG to be a breach of their ToS, that prohibits trading of keys for money or any other form of payment. They consider the levelling system here (the CV received) a form of payment, and therefore the 'giving' to be trading.
