Dark Souls, i was moderatly interested but bought other things on sales, always had the idea of buying it... one day

but then it was a free gift from the golden joystick, and ended up spending 160 hours, playing it trough 3 times and 100% all the achivements, you can say, i like it.

life.exe from my parents on my birthday

hmm probably the mini-games inside the life.exe, steam seems good ... lots of garbage though,
name-worthy and free of credits inside of steam (drm) > HAWKEN

Quite a few nice ones ;)

You Must Build a Boat - game from creator of 10000000 which I really liked. Creator was sending keys via steam chat to people who asked if they owned AND played 10000000 prior to release of YMBAB, since I had all achivs in 10000000 unlocked I got a key right away ;p

Dungelot: Shattered Lands - Very nice mix odf roguelike and puzzle game, I played a lot of DRM free alpha version I got in some drm free bundle because I really liked the idea, got Steam release in dev GA where they asked for reviews in return ;)

Life is Feudal - Probably my best win from orlygift ;)

Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Symphonia - I won some playfield.io credit twice (it's a store which promoted itself on SG but died since then), used it to get these two games plus some stuff for GAs ;)

Layers of Fear - Won on RIP Steamified from some gleam GA, got a game at premiere ;)

Borderlands 2 - on premiere day, there was a price bug on Borderlands 2 4pack on gamersgate, I bought it but they were out of keys, I sent one copy as a gift to my alt account to see if it will unlock the key, it did not, later on they announced it was price bug, they will not be sending keys and will refund all money, but they reviked only purchases waiting on accounts, not sent gifts, so they refunded me money then added a key to gift sent to alt account ;P So I got a sequel to one of my favoritue games right after premiere for free ;p

Skyrim - one of reasons I stick to my Steam account (it was my 2nd game ever on Steam) - won it at premiere on some FB page ;)

Probably many many more (I bought less than 20% of my library myself, rest I won somewhere or got for free in other ways), but not remembering now ;P

it is kind of remake, because of changes they did in part 3 it was impossible to import your charqacter you played part 1 and 2 into part 3 (new classes, builds etc), in Final Cut you play part 1&2 with new game rules from part 3, thus you are able to import character across game and it's the only version where you are able to play whole trilogy with the same character.

I have an awful memory for what I got for free/what I bought. From what comes to my mind right now the best was:

The Witcher 3 + DLC - It was a christmas + birthday present from a friend. I dont think this needs an explanation as to why it is the best.

Honorable mentions:

A metric fuckton of Pixel Puzzles Ultimate DLC - not sure if this would count, because it is not technically a game. I got over 20 of those from different people for different occasions. I love jigsaw puzzles so I obviously love that game.

Payday 2 - Got it for free at Gamescom 2014. I havent played it in a long time, but I had a lot of fun playing it with friends in the past.

My best free game was Hyperrogue.
Although I got this game on this site it was a ninja key in the comments of a giveaway for the same game... ;D
It actually gave me more than fifty hours of fun at the time of writing this.

First one that springs to mind is Beneath a Steel Sky, back in the late 90s. I was new to PC gaming, but I had played and really liked a couple of adventure games (Broken Sword 1 & 2) and I wanted more from the developer.

BASS was on the budget label Sold-Out at the time. HMV were selling Sold-Out games at 3 for £10, or £5 each. I got BASS and two other games, though I didn't like the other two and decided to return them (back when you could return PC games).

I brought the 3 games back to the shop, but I think the guy in HMV was new or something. When he went through the refund process, he took the 2 games I didn't want and gave me £10 back, letting me keep BASS for free ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Turned out to be one of my favourite games, and I got it for free. The developer (Revolution Software) made it freeware in 2003. If you're looking for a funny dystopian point-and-click adventure (think Wadjet Eye Games, but actually from 1994), then you can get it for free from GOG.

Yeah, it's hard to go back to some games. I worry about replaying old games I liked in case I crack my rose-tinted glasses :)

I purchased a boxed copy of Football Manager 2017 from amazon for my dad's xmas. The silly seller sent me two copies by mistake, and when I told the seller in message he replied, "just keep it." :D

Not counting things I won or was just gifted, Shadows on the Vatican Act I. If I count games that were gifted to me just like that… well, I had really great ones among those I have had many hours of fun with, but if I had to pick one, then probably Resident Evil 1 HD.

I haven't got many free games from somewhere else (well I got Dark Souls free from Golden Joystick but already own it and gifted it to a friend) but I was given Bad Rats for free from a user here since I didn't win his giveaway and he thought I really needed it :)
