Is there a way to search Steam more effectively? For example, search for Games costing $7 or less, released 2005 or later with metascore 80 or more? Steam Advanced Search doesn't seem to offer an option to define price, release date or metascore.

I think that's worth a bump...

Nope. You can use IsThereAnyDeal as it has more options, but for example it has no links to MetaCritic.

I wasn't familiar with this site. So far I'm not having much success getting useful results. The DATE RANGE filter for example doesn't seem to work (I'm getting results for games released since 1996 when I try to filter for games released since 2005). They're in beta, so hopefully things improve later on.

oh, don't you like its ability to hide the games in your wishlist and the one to never put them on top?

If you're referring to Steam's search, then yes, there are some nice things about it. But in general it's very limited and doesn't come close to what I'm looking for. See use cases in the OP.

I stopped trusting metascore a long time ago, only the user score seems more or less reliable to me =) I believe critics should criticize a bit, not just blindly love everything the publishers thrown at them ^_^'
Anyway, there is some advanced search on Metacritic - it's not very useful, but I don't know any good alternatives, too.

This search is not very good, a lot games is missing, at least older ones, from 1990-2005 period

I took a look if you can do it with scripts using search engine (for example, entering something like 'site:store.steampowered.com "6,99$" Release Date: 2005') then modifying search values to cover your desired range, but google chokes on too similar values, doesn't find games that I know are there, and to make matters worse, not every game has metacritic score confusing google further and adding various glitches to results.

No, I think what you want would only be possible with either steam's internal search, if they ever bother to add that, or bot scrapping all steam pages hourly for these so you have convenient local database to search. There is a problem, however, as you noted some games have wrong release dates as they can have up to four release dates: original date, steam release date, goty/gold edition release date, and re-release date (it they were removed from steam then returned, or changed publishers) confusing matters further, so the database would need to be curated by humans.

The release dates on Steam are indeed a mess.

In any case the site MuIIins posted above at least provides more control over search than any of the other sites. It's a good start.
