Yea its a big problem even in private groups. It sucks. And there is nothing you can really do about it. Just hope someone who is sincere picks up your problem and tries to help you. And then you still hope you get someone who isn condescending.

Your first mistake was asking for help in a Steam chat group. You should of Googled the problem first, or posted your problem in a forum dedicated to PC related issues. If somehow you couldn't do that, then you should of AT LEAST Googled what the chat trolls told you to do, not just assume everything they told you would fix your problem. Lesson learned.

Your dad can reinstall Windows from a disc and the laptop will be good as new, maybe even without data lost.
