It may have been intended as a joke, but the subject matter is serious enough.

Indeed. I don't mind being unfunny if it helps to raise awareness of a genuine issue.
BananaNation, maybe you could link us to one of your extremely funny posts so that people coming here can enjoy a laugh after all?

I do apologise. I clicked on that topic expecting to see a wonderful post about the cod population danger, but instead was disappointed to read a poorly-written post by some tween crying over the fact that they don't like Call of Duty but some people do like Call of Duty. I didn't read through all 150+ comments because the first couple simply seemed to be people forcing their opinion onto others as fact. :P
But cod depletion is a serious issue. Try the alternatives!

I don't like cod, it lacks flavor. I prefer tilapia or salmon.

Because cod is an easy fish. Whereas haddock requires a proper recipe, and hake is an intricate dish to make, cod requires no skill or planning in preparation; you just smack it on the stove and there you go; instant meal.
That's just the world we live in; nobody is interested in taking the time and effort required to have a good fish experience; it's all rushed out, pre-cooked and easily digestible, and nobody takes the time out of their busy schedule to enjoy a good salmon anymore.
I'm honestly not sure if I'm metaphoring or just ranting at fishsticks.

Tbh Cod is my favourite fish, when cooking and eating I mean. In Spain we usually have the salted one, that is tasteful and easy cooking, but when I was living in Uk I discovered fresh Cod and Haddock, and they're quite the same. The only different thing Is how you sell them, as tradicionally haddock is considered as a "low quality cod".
Ps: More food threads in Steamgifts! I want a thread about recipes all around the world! ;)

Shut your face. Cod and Haddock are NOT the same. Nothing beats fresh cod, and potatoes or fries and gravy and peas.

Cod is still the most popular fish when buying fish and chips in the UK, but the fish itself is becoming massively depleted, and has been for over ten years.
"North Sea cod are in danger of dying out without a complete fishing ban, scientists say." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6061872.stm
Why aren't people moving to alternatives like haddock, plaice or hake?
Remember: this isn't the plaice for fish puns.
