Hello community,

I would like to present you a new Image Viewer, a program which lets you view your images much better than the current Windows Photos and with a lot more configurable settings for a better experience.

First of all Meew is completely free.

It was coded by my brother so I can guarantee it's safe to use.

He found motivation to do a better image viewer when the old classic Windows XP Image Viewer got substituted by the current Photos program which he doesn't like at all. After looking for a better and complete image viewer on the internet and after failing to find one he decided to code for himself a perfect one.

He spends a lot of time reading manga on the computer so he needed a good image viewer. We think anyone who is reading manga on pc will find Meew very useful.

He is now sharing the software:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MyFavoriteViewer/
Website: https://meewapp.wordpress.com/
Download: https://meewapp.wordpress.com/download/

If you would like to support this project please feel free to:

  • Like and Share on Facebook
  • Donate via website
  • Since this is a gaming site, game donations are fine too (we love to play)
  • Or simply give us feedback (knowing people are using and enjoying Meew is a great motivation)

Thanks for reading and for trying the software!

I personally use irfanview right now. Is there a comparison somewhere between the 2?

I was gonna write the same thing; been using irfanview for well over 20 years at this point and I love it. How does it compare?

Since it's almost impossible to compare it with all the other available image viewers unfortunately he only made a comparison with the windows one (which should be the most used plus it was the one he was using). He never tried irfanview, he saw it but decided not to try it.

On Meew's facebook page you can find a lot of images with table comparisons with the windows one and the functions available on Meew, I guess seeing the functions might give you an idea of what it can do.

Well it would be nice if a irfanview user could try Meew and give us feedback of what is better or worse.

I loved the XP image viewer, and when I moved up to 7/8, I struggled to find a replacement viewer. I ended up with Infran purely because it did animated GIFs without having to open the internet browser!

I'm excited to try this new viewer, and if it cuts the mustard, I'll be sure to shout it from the virtual rooftops.
Just, given my online clout, best to imagine the rooftops are enclosed in a soundproof box, and my shouting is particularly hoarse.

It was coded by my brother so I can guarantee it's safe to use.

Yes, that's correct.

There's no way for someone to guarantee you a program is safe or not.

So why did I post that?

I'm just telling you I know the program maker and that is not a random program I found on some random webpage.

If you find it not trustworthy that's fine, you may ignore it.

Beside the "might not be safe" comment, you can't even get a working picture here right.

I didn't use the forum much plus my degree is in Management... just don't assume because of this topic that I should know any sort of coding because I don't.

I'm just trying to help my brother to get feedback on the software he created.

Was a joke, relax.

Still that "can't guarantee if it's safe thing", might make some facepalm, but like your comment above to Alpha, take it easy.
But you say you know this program maker, it's your brother, but that's also something we just have to take your word on, right?
Someone who isn't very active on the forum, only had wins.

It's fine :)

I agree, I'm an unknown guy here, I haven't contributed but I like this site.

My word is the only thing I can offer so yes, any guy who installs the software should know the risk.

Hopefully someone more credible here can try it out and make a simple review of his experience.

I hope someone tries Meew and enjoys it, it's a good software and it's completely free if you want to use it for free. Maybe making someone happy using Meew can be my contribution for the free games I won on steamgifts.

Thanks for letting us know, I may give it a shot.

In the meanwhile, I'd like to recommend FastStone viewer - the best application ever (not just viewer), on any platform. And it's free ...though I do donate $15 about every year and a half, for the past 10 years. It's that good.

I haven't tried it but after looking on screenshots. It doesn't look bad, it has some nice functions... however some important informations are not included. Basically I'd suggest adding whether it does handle manga/comic book files? CBZ, CBR, CB7 etc. For viewer "perfect for manga" it's basically must-have option :) Similar information about multipage TIFF files? I couldn't find any proper buttons... of course it's possible they are context based :)
Webpage should also include license informations or link to them. I was unable to find anything like those.

Small details about comparison you have:

  1. Generally W10 Photos app allows to zoom in and out... although it's a bit limited and/or unintuitive.
  2. Rotation is remembered as this function modifies original file :P
  3. I'm not sure whether it's an app or not... controls are on top or bottom (same can be said about buttons on left :P) is good or bad.
  4. I'm unsure why Java is in cons. It's just one of frameworks... though it could be bundled with installer :)
  5. And please for the sake of user sanity... use text + table as comparison on program homepage and not image (unless screenshots) of programs.

I'd also suggest posting screenshot of app on homepage. Most of pages have animals or some items as header... basically it doesn't seem like program page on first look.

Generally I'd suggest comparison with some other programs designed to such work such as IrfanView - image viewer, ComicRack - comic viewer, SumatraPDF - document viewer (+ comics support) or their alternatives (links). I think those three are among best, though some may disagree. There are few popular programs to offer same functionality and everybody can have own opinion. Comparing one popular program per platform per general use case would be good unless you specifically hit user base of Windows Photos app.

Adding program to alternative search engine could be useful after it reaches stable state.

There's no way for someone to guarantee you a program is safe or not.

Yes and no. It quite much depends on definition of guarantee. Generally you can:

  • minimize (secure or minimize impact),
  • transfer (make sb responsible or provide proper funds to compensate damage),
  • ignore (this usually require proper documentation)

risks. Proper project documentation may also be good proof to guarantee software behavior (though it's a bit complicated, especially mathematical documentation). Just saying :P
